I done a long thoughtful post regarding this generation, the previous and the next, but it never posted for some reason… anyways i’ll roll it down quickly.
This generation every parent company will do good, infact some will contest this fact but if you didn’t include the horrible Zune as being the same division as the Xbox, then they have made alot of money on the console; including the Zune in the math however leaves that division in the red by 31mill (not that much really)… however MS grossed 16+billion so they are doing dandy… Nintendo don’t have a care in the world, and Sony are feeling the pain not only from the huge development costs still looming from the PS3’s development but also from the rest of their company feeling the economy crisis hard.
My quick predictions for the next gen are as such
Microsoft:
They’ll bring a powerhouse to the table, will return with a brilliant online service, good lineup of titles and introduce GE’s new CD technology in the system (holographic discs that have been proven to hold 500+gig of data on a single disc by projecting holographic data into the actual disc, not just the surface)
Nintendo:
Will introduce a HD system by 2013, which will be the start date for the next generation of systems. It’ll be a fast system but much like the Wii will focus on controlling technologies rather that of expensive console hardware techs.
Sony:
Will bring out a conservative machine, it’ll be more robust than Nintendo’s efforts in its architecture but due to endless income of Microsoft and their money constraints left from the global recession won’t invest as much into future lasting technologies for the system. It’ll probably include a revised Blu-Ray player to try and stamp its hold on the market.
Its just my thoughts, but these are all viable forecasts and definately refect the market as it stands at the moment… even if the PS3 gains greater momentum it won’t rescue other departments of Sony. My feelings say that even though Blu-Ray won that format war it won’t build momentum to it being the popular choice (which is still DVD largely)… Flash Drives, Holographic storage and digital distribution to me seem more inlaying than what is essentially a super-dvd (blu-ray).
