Technology

I like how some console fanboys on YouTube are telling me a PS3 is better then a videocard like the GTX295.

Anyway I think consoles are great, they are not very expensive but still deliver decent quality for people to play on (especially kids who don’t have parents to pay 2000$ PC for them).

I started off with a gameboy then a N64 and GameCube.
At that time I got a PC and soon got into high-end gaming.

Now running a quadcore, 6gig RAM and a GTX295 and i’m loving it!
It is expensive, but I usually buy a new PC every 2/3 years.
The problem with this is that the GPU never survives that long, my 6800GT, 7900GT and 9800GX2 didn’t last more then 2 years, especially my 9800GX2 which holds the record of dying after 4 months (a fucking joke, these things get 90 C + when gaming).

I done a long thoughtful post regarding this generation, the previous and the next, but it never posted for some reason… anyways i’ll roll it down quickly.

This generation every parent company will do good, infact some will contest this fact but if you didn’t include the horrible Zune as being the same division as the Xbox, then they have made alot of money on the console; including the Zune in the math however leaves that division in the red by 31mill (not that much really)… however MS grossed 16+billion so they are doing dandy… Nintendo don’t have a care in the world, and Sony are feeling the pain not only from the huge development costs still looming from the PS3’s development but also from the rest of their company feeling the economy crisis hard.

My quick predictions for the next gen are as such

Microsoft:
They’ll bring a powerhouse to the table, will return with a brilliant online service, good lineup of titles and introduce GE’s new CD technology in the system (holographic discs that have been proven to hold 500+gig of data on a single disc by projecting holographic data into the actual disc, not just the surface)

Nintendo:
Will introduce a HD system by 2013, which will be the start date for the next generation of systems. It’ll be a fast system but much like the Wii will focus on controlling technologies rather that of expensive console hardware techs.

Sony:
Will bring out a conservative machine, it’ll be more robust than Nintendo’s efforts in its architecture but due to endless income of Microsoft and their money constraints left from the global recession won’t invest as much into future lasting technologies for the system. It’ll probably include a revised Blu-Ray player to try and stamp its hold on the market.

Its just my thoughts, but these are all viable forecasts and definately refect the market as it stands at the moment… even if the PS3 gains greater momentum it won’t rescue other departments of Sony. My feelings say that even though Blu-Ray won that format war it won’t build momentum to it being the popular choice (which is still DVD largely)… Flash Drives, Holographic storage and digital distribution to me seem more inlaying than what is essentially a super-dvd (blu-ray).

what you bassicly talket about is space management …, but , how much further from crysys can games go?

Graphics aren’t what developers need to focus on at all anymore… infact this focus on graphics is really deplorable when game play, music and story are so largely generic that if those areas of concern aren’t worked on they might as well stop upgrading computers.

Remember, a solid game (and crysis is definately a bad example of one) needs more then just pretty visuals to make it great.

Yea it’s pretty obvious game developers are putting more time into the storyline of the game.

I find things such as;

  • Storyline
  • Gameplay
  • Voice acting

Very important, like a movie, just look at the succes of the Half-Life singleplayer series.

i meant in terms of hardware requirements …

I think a lot of people are using Crysis’ graphics as an excuse to why it ‘sucks’.
They probably expected better performance on their PC which caused them to do this.

Personally I like Crysis a lot, especially the multiplayer (Powerstruggle) gave me some good laughs.

Hardware requirments don’t need to change far from todays standards really I think a focus really needs to shift to making sure that current day graphics prove 100% smooth on the next generation (no popping in or slow downs) AND hardware that reads data from media at a faster rate so you can create vast worlds seemlessly.

I know thats sort of a 1900’s everything that will be invented has been invented type comment… but focus on graphics really needs to go away. Technology discussions really need to flow to AI, Data storage/reading and dynamic ways for games to tell story.

hey ,a game is only as good as the engine it’s build on …[ and his developers]
i am refering to graphics because it’s the only thing that can be scaled down, it can be betwen 1 and 10 , gameplay… not rly , mostly depends on person , i am thinking , hell , a lot of time has passed since first games ware released , game developers should have more knoledge of what people really want and expect from games… NO?

I would just like to say Romania is now my 2nd favorite country because they measure currency in lions.

Vietnam has you beat, with dongs.

Well graphics isn’t really a great topic, especially when it comes to Hardware. Gameplay which is directly linked to AI, AI which is directly linked to developer code, which in hand is processed by CPU. Better CPU in toe with better developer code = better interactions, thus better gameplay.

Secondly most game developers struggle with what people want, infact they struggle with story, design and music… it just so happens that they in the most broadest stereotype act generic. Games could be so much better if they allowed artistic freedom to their composers for music, attempt at writing better story and develop a way to make that story more convincing to play via many game technologies.

Technology in gaming as i’ve said really needs to be forced to look more closely to AI, music method of delivery i.e. games like Halo have a dynamic score which through game AI will change and mix pre-recorded score to make uniquely mixed scores to the players reactions… thats awesome.

Its just a thought, but people need to look past the graphics thick layer to see some games for the empty non-artistic shells that they are.

i liked more call of ctulhu dark corners of the earth in favour of doom3 at the time , that proves that technologi put into something ain’t shizz …

I hate my stupid laptop. I can’t play anything on it these days.

tell that to my amd athlon 1.5 , 512 ram , nvidia g force mx 4000 , 40 gb hdd

Tell that to my IBM Thinkpad 600X Pentium III 450MHz, 64 MB RAM, 6GB HDD

tell that to my cellphone

Geddon Gear for all your stake knife needs

BACK ON TOPIC NOWWWWWWW

in your opinion , in what amount of time the currgen will become oldgen?

Tell that to my wired telephone.

Thats what you call a PC.

Im 14 and I payed for and built my own $2000 gaming machine. If you have your parents buy you a $1500+ comp for gaming, your not a real gamer.
