Its Tax Day in the USA so lets talk about taxes and stuff. I owed negative taxes so I’m not particularly pissed off, but there’s some astroturf rallies in DC going on that you can watch on CNN.
Insert debate here.

I have no debate. Taxes are necessary. Period.
I know, its great.
ditto
This. It’s annoying whenever I have to pay around 200 bucks or something but they’re necessary.
Well… I suppose I AM angry that while I am unemployed and filing bankruptcy, I owe 2K in taxes. But it is my own fault. I didnt have them take taxes out of my unemployment. :s hrug:
Them: “Aren’t you angry that you’re being forced to pay?”
Me: “Yes. I’m angry every time I have to pay for my housing. I’m angry every time I go to the cashier at the supermarket and am required to give away my hard earned money. I’m getting sick and tired of watching my money fly out the window to my Internet Service Provider, my utilities, transportation costs…”
Them: “…”
Me: “No, I’m not angry at having to pay for things I use, and that includes paying taxes. Are you?”
SOCIALISTS!
Sorry… I guess I missed the point of the thread? Can someone explain please?
Discussion of taxes, tax policy, tax protests. I thought it was obvious since that was covered in the OP.
so more of a political bent then? ok sorry. Not my cup of tea.
Thanks for the bump, anyway
This is what the astroturf protests yesterday were protesting:
I think one of the wackiest ideas ever is that the wealthy must pay more in taxes.
Ramirezoid: Even though they use government a lot more than those that are not wealthy do?
And if it is a flat tax you’re advocating, that burdens the poor far more than it does the rich. How? Well, Bob makes $15k/year. Steve makes $1.5mil/year. Bob’s living expenses equal $13k/year, leaving $2k disposable. Steve’s living expenses are $500k/year, leaving $1mil disposable. Both are then taxed at the same 30% rate. Bob’s tax bill is $600. Steve’s is $300k. Bob has $1400 left. Steve has $700k left. Which is burdened more with the bill?
But it is irrelevant as Steve is taking more of the pie than Bob is; why shouldn’t he pay more?
obvious sarcasm is obvious, settle down
See, the problem with Poe’s Law is that you can never be sure… :hmph:
