Suit Boot sequence?

This is a small question about how to create the boot sequence of the HEV suit?
The “Boot Sequence” flag at the item_suit entity doesn’t do anything.
And from decompiling the bm_c1a0a map, i can’t find any triggers or entities that would do the sequence.

So i’m asking if it possible to get it to work on other maps or is it hard-coded to only work in bm_c1a0a?

I cannot seem to open any maps in Hammer, it just makes it crash.

So if I had to guess, it is done with screen overlays.

I manged to open the map only when i disabled everything except entities and special brushes.

And i have learned that the boot sequence is hard-coded to only run on bm_c1a0a. I changed a test map to bm_c1a0a, then the sequence started once i picked up the suit.

I can’t say i’m so happy about it, but i guess that was the way it had to be made.

We can look into making this modder friendly, if there is demand for it. Charly, our programmer who wrote the sequence, was planning on making some changes and refinements to it, we might be able to work that in.

There will at least be demand for it from the HC side. I plan to replace mine with the official one when we port.

It’d be neat if you could change the wording slightly for the HC suit. Such as adding “Test Model” or something like that to the screens to show that it’s not the same suit you get in the AM labs.

What is said during the sequence is located in bms_misc_dir.vpk, in the resource folder under the name of bootup_english.txt
Hopefully in the future it would be possible to chose what file to use on a suit.

Has anyone found the actual pictures of the HEV suit by now, too? I rummaged through the vpks and found nothing, sadly.

+1 demand for it! I would love to have it as an optional flag - I’m sure not every map would want to utilize it, but having the option would be great!

Yeah, I can definitely see the use of it.

I know it probably adds unnecessary layers of complexity and probably isn’t worth the effort, but the more ‘customizability’ the better, really. Stuff like this is exactly why.

Do you mean the textures? Those are in the bms_materials VPK (open the _dir one), in materials\models\props_am

Is there a command you can type into the console to initiate the H.E.V. Boot-up sequence? If so, what is it?

As far as we can tell, it’s hard-coded to appear when you pick up the suit, and specifically only when you pick up the suit in that one particular map in Anomalous Materials.

I’d definitely put a feature request in for a much less specific way of triggering the suit bootup sequence.

What does that mean?

To request a modder-friendly boot sequence.

I’ll run this by a programmer. I did already but I think it got lost among the million other things we have to deal with.
