Suggestions for the final Steam BM version

I was comparing BM to HL 1, there 1 bullet to the scientist’s head from the glock was enough.

Thanks for the tip.

Meanwhile, despite the apparently common belief, Black Mesa is not in fact Half-Life 1 v2.0

Clearly.

you say that as if it’s something bad, yet it was never meant to be HL v2, so your incessant guised complaining is completely unconstructive

I think there should be a new 357 revolver HECU variation

I wasn’t aware the military was supplied with special variations of their weaponry.

Going to bump this thread with a little tidbit of information. I am going to preface this with take everything said here at face value, don’t try to read into it.

We’ve ported the game to Source SDK 2013 with little difficulty. We do have to play through the game and go over it with a fine toothed comb to fix bugs listed on the bug tracker and bugs introduced by the port. If you want to see ‘progress’, best we can really do is say Look at the bug tracker.

Personally, I’d like to work on the AI a bit, taking into account the balance feedback and attempting to make it a bit more realistic. One of the things I changed recently was the AI now investigates combat sounds. Previously, the grunt would only turn towards the source of the noise, not actually moving towards it. We’ll see how this plays out during internal playtests.

As I wrote in a previous post, we’ve been bit in the past by over committing, or being too ambiguous. As we move forward, I’ll try to post some very general updates, but don’t expect them. Due to the NDA with VALVe, we are quite limited in terms of what we can discuss. I can’t disclose timetables for any specific functionality or parts of the game (read: Xen). Just sit back and enjoy the news updates if/when they occur

That’s a very welcome update. Gives me a lot of confidence that the official steam release will be much improved. Thanks.

I agree with you.

Fantastic update. I look forward to hearing more updates. Thank you.

Awesome! Better grunt AI is always welcome! If the AI gets good enough, you might even have to nerf their damage just to balance 'em!

Oooh, I’m liking the sounds of this. Looking forward to it!

Cool, your-name-here. I think this was already answered, but how will Black Mesa mods like TextFAMGUY1’s Surface Tension and On a Rail and the Hazard Course mod be implemented?

Not a time table but still applies. We need to finish the game before we can even think about integrating in other mods. That’s all I can say on this matter.

Alright. Can’t wait to play the Xen levels of Black Mesa!

Make it so that the HECU aren’t calling Freeman out by name in the earlier chapters.

On my last playthrough, I started playing through We Got Hostiles and one of the very first things I heard them say was “I’m tired of playing these games Freeman!” What, you just got here. How do you know me already?

Thank you for the info

IIRC, they had that originally, (and there’s a flag for it in the FGD) but the flag didn’t work for some reason.

Have to admit, I wasn’t expecting that update; I thought the NDA would keep you guys under radio silence until (secondary) launch. Pleasant surprise.

I haven’t really disclosed anything that’s ‘new’ information outside of the fact that we ported to 2013 and an AI change. The NDA doesn’t care about any of that. What the NDA does care about are future plans. Basically anything covering steam release specific information is off limits. With this small news post, don’t expect a downpour of additional information. There are still things the team wants to keep under wraps so be mindful of that.

Well it’s nice you might be touching up the AI, lord knows these grunts are worse than the combine.

If/when it’s done, probably going to do a comparison to that group of people who are also working on general AI updates, since those seem incredible.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
