Suggestions for the final Steam BM version

Is this basically the Black Mesa Wishlist thread? I have some wishes! Um, um, um…
Nah, just fix the bugs you been notified of and all will be well.

Honestly, the Uplink remake was good, but I think it was significantly and noticeably lower quality than Black Mesa. And anyone dumb enough to try and remake the Hazard Course probably won’t meet it’s “standards” either.

Yeah, but it looks and feels a bit out of place.

I got a few wishes myself too…

  1. Perhaps I agree that the only overhaul to BM’s Main Menu UI is the classic HL style menu before Steam offered HL.

  2. Add Text’s meta-mods (ST Uncut and OAR Uncut) to the mod itself.

  3. Perhaps a few modifications to the weapon animations (I’m looking at you, Crowbar) and effects because I feel that some weapons are kinda underwhelming, especially the MP5 (or they could include meta-mods that do these as well.)

  4. Commentaries. Like seriously, I want it so bad.

Man, I feel that BM should have it’s own Greenlight program thingy, for a mod that is Greenlighted (Greenlightception) but hey, there’s the Research Facilities thread.

Ok My wishlist before Black Mesa goes live on steam.

  1. Improve all the teleportation effects so they match or improve on HL2 (env_fade)

  2. Implement a Latch Crab at some point before you get the crowbar (don’t let that one go to waste

  3. At the Lambda Core drop the SFX volumes a bit of the reactor spinning it’s too damn loud

  4. Add Dust to Headcrabs that burrow out the ground

  5. Better Crowbar Annimations

  6. Improve the Crossbow smoothness

  7. Re-balance and give the headcrabs the same physics as in HL2

  8. Expand on Questionable ethics a bit… Xen fauna and the leeches released by accident by gordon

  9. Better VGUI with more bells and whistles a start up video and a Video wormhole before reaching xen

  10. Oh yeah Xen

  11. Extra content integrated I hope so… ST Uncut & OAR Uncut (Uplink after the rocket launch before apprehension? Hazard course It would be nice)

  12. HECU Zombies for ST Uncut and OAR Uncut God damn it

  13. Lock the Door in questionable Ethics after you go through it as reloading an old area causes the switches for the super laser to disappear and also stops confusion about what to do. Not only this but also improve timing on the sequence where the Tau cannon blows away the scientist so you can see it happen.

Kepping my fingers crossed

I made one, I might upload it soon. I just made it with Windows Movie Maker and the 2009 trailer and it’s kind of long, but I think it’s alright.

Xen, ST and OaR uncut implemented (more optimized hopefully), less overpowered HECU, bugs fixed.

Optional new voices for the HECU, that are more serious this time.

I feel like pretty much all the custom animations could do with a lot of fundamental overhauls. I really don’t want to hurt the guy’s feelings, but he’s not too good. Or at least he wasn’t too good when he was working with BM.

as far as i really notice these thing, I thought they were pretty good, actually

Yeah, the only animation complaint I have at all is the revolver, and only really the rounds in the reload animation when viewed at a lower framerate and the fact that, IIRC, the cylinder rotates a different direction firing when sighted compared to not.

Not even the crowbar, which is what most people complain about.

i would like to have the crowbar and revolver be given back their original HL2 animations, but yeah, unlikely

IMO, it’s the same weapon so it should look, act and feel the same. Different texture is fine of course, since it’s not the same individual weapon.
Same goes for movement mechanics and everything else that is shared between BM and HL2. Maybe in the future it will be possible to achieve that

I actually thought the .357 had the only good weapon animations in the whole game

I’m not even talking about the first person animations. I mean the scripted event stuff like the icthy pulling the scientist into the pool/ the tentacle pulling the scientist into the silo. And the scientist fighting the headcrab in the beginning of the game… And the…

well, all of the scripted event animations are pretty uuurgh

NO DERE NEVUR GONNA DO XEN

I think the crowbar animation is fine.

Iunno.

Unfortunately that won’t be easy.

I don’t think we need a fancier interface.

I have no issues with the weapon animations (Admittedly I never noticed the scoped .357 thing), and I think they control well. The scripted events didn’t look bad to me at all, so I’m not really sure what you’re getting at.

Maybe they could change the interface sounds in UI to be similar to the sounds on the main page of the website. (you know, when you put your cursor then it makes a sound?) and bms theme plays as game startup music.

That’s fine, but they are bad though.

Like how? I think they’re animated great.

First of all, there seems to be no use of any sort of graph editor; and every keyframe seems to have linear interpolation which is a huge no-no. Every movement is way too fast with no anticipation or follow through at all, and there seems to be no regard for any characters’ center of gravity.

As far as how well it stacks up to the assets in the rest of the mod, it’s pretty unacceptable.

And before you pull the “WELL LETS SEE YOU DO BETTER THEN IF U NO SO MUCH!!!11” line, just know that I plan to. Just as soon as college stops intruding on personal projects and I can get a better handle on source.

A simple “continue game” feature and for all advanced options to actually stick.

Oddly enough, I’ve never had that problem :s

You probably never touched the view roll slider then. It resets everytime you start up the mod.
