Steambox: The Steam Universe is Expanding

It did get brighter. Though it could just be that steams future is getting brighter or a design thing.

I’d like to say it looks like vaguely like a distorted half-life 2 logo but there’s massive bias in seeing images in things. Just because Valve says that its not game related at all doesn’t mean it isn’t one hundred percent but I would put the chance in a really really low percentile.

(Hint: Its probably just a web design thing)

Also I fucking called the announcement. I just put the controller in front in stead of last.

And the Steam Box at the end instead of the middle.

NOOOOOOOOOOOO, THEY’RE GOING TO ANNOUNCE L4D3 And DOTA3!!!

I feel like exactly that is going to happen for the most part.

omg is that legit?

What I’m hoping they do is release a screenshot of a games library from the system, and just sitting there on the list is, very clearly, Half-Life 3.

And that’s it. They don’t mention or even acknowledge it in the slightest.

The internet would tear itself apart trying to decide if it’s meaningful or not.

That would actually be pretty friggin’ hilarious, and now I wanna see it as well.

I am guessing some sort of gamepad is going to be the third reveal…

Throwing my own guess out there in the form of them revealing the digital interface.

Either way, we’ll find out exactly what it is in less than an hour~

Ooh, it’s a thumb pad that works like a mouse. That’s actually really cool.

Looks really interesting

…and apparently it’s also in beta.

It’s got a clickable touchscreen that overlays onto the main screen, some really advanced feedback things, and it’s designed to be hackable and moddable.

I think I’m speaking for a lot of people when I say that this controller is cool as shit.

I think it’s pretty cool too. I definitely want to try it out at least. Could become the new de facto PC gamepad.

Well, I wasn’t expecting this type of controller. Looks very interesting!

So yea, hopefully developers will drop Windows as the default platform the moment SteamOS comes out, but I fear Microsoft has enough money to persuade the biggest fish to stick to Windows.

Hmm.

Anyone here played a mobile/tablet game that uses virtual/touchscreen analog sticks (or drag to look/aim, eg. Shadowgun)?
I imagine the touchpads on this will perform similarly to those, but without some of the obvious issues eg. thumbs in the way of the screen, less-than-ergonomic grip, etc. The ‘click’ function, textured surface and raised circles should improve things a bit.

Not to mention the majority of the ‘gaming OS’ market share already…

The features seem pretty damn cool, but the controller itself is extremely ugly. I hope they make it prettier (ugliness won’t stop me from buying it tho).

I’m genuinely impressed by all three announcements. This pretty much settles any argument over what console to buy, if any.
I’m more inclined to get a (this) console than I’ve been for years.

I’m just hoping that this isn’t the Ferrari of consoles. Expensive, that is.

(My apologies if I just offended any car fanatics)

I think the open nature of the whole platform will ensure there’s something for everyone, in all price ranges. You could assemble your own box on the cheap and install SteamOS on it.
