Steam GUI Update!

It just might take longer for valve to ship out games now that they will need to code for macs as well.

If the base engine is ported, all they need to do really is re-compile maps and alter some code to be non-platform-specific in each game.

Actually, that makes it sound far easier than it is to port something to a platform that isn’t related in any way…

I know, but there would be lots of effort in porting the engine originally, which is what I was trying to get across but chose shitty words to do so.

It really depends on how Valve tackled it really, it could’ve been a half-arsed effort for all we know, that’s if anything comes of it.

Well, it went both ways. Apple contacted Valve first, Valve said they wanted 1 million dollar and some technical stuff, Apple didn’t want to give that, so both went their ways.

Yeah I know, but from experience I can say that Valve don’t disappoint with ports or release something that is buggy.

Well, there’s two ways to deal with this. Either Valve used Cider (or something similar) to just let their current engine speak to the Mac API instead of the Windows API (which generally results in a lesser quality port), or they did it the Telltale way, and rewrote their engine to fit with Mac.

If it’s the last one, it’ll be ossum.

I laughed heartily at this.
They tend to release broken/buggy things quite a lot, but unlike other developers, they fix it quickly… or leave it there to become part of a product.

EDIT:
@Bolteh: I hope they modified the engine to fit with MacOS, rather than the Cider approach. It will be good to see Source in OpenGL natively.

I know that TF2 was buggy on release, but after about a month all of their games have had most bugs fixed (I normally get them after about a month and a half anyway)

Yes but you were stating that you know that Valve don’t release anything that’s buggy or unfinished, which is untrue in most cases.

I withdraw that statement now
What I meant to say is that Valve are perfectionists and patch everything ASAP

This update is really awesome.

As much as I love the new layout for Steam, the “last played: tomorrow” glitch is funny as hell and I think its supposed to be a deterrent for late-night gaming (I.E. to make the user think he’s seeing wierd shit to urge sleep and curb gaming-based sleep deprivation.

NUTHABUG!

My games list. It went uber-awesome.

I had duplicates of game-titles on the left, but only one or less would be the correct game. And then just randomly some games from the left weren’t matching up with the large section on the right. Exited and restarted and everything was back to normal.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
