Steam Beta. Leaked.

Meh… It’s coming next Wednesday, and Thursday is a bank holiday. Perfect timing.

I’ve been “waiting” for 3 years for this anyway, won’t hurt to wait a few more days.

It’s ironic really, Valve started this whole content distribution platform because at the time there was nothing like it. They asked other companies if they had anything in the pipeline and when they all said no, Valve simply made one themselves, and so STEAM was born.

Gabe even said they’d asked Apple and they always said they were very interested in doing something for the Mac, and half a year later they still hadn’t done anything about it.

Now it seems that Valve is stepping up to do what Apple should’ve done for its customers in the first place… make it a viable gaming platform :expressionless:

:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|

That gets old after a while…

Everything does eventually :expressionless:

But just for you

I wish Steam was available on every gaming system in existence.

Even the NES.

Edit: Maybe the Atari 2600 is a bit slow for it…

ZX Spectrum? Loading Steam from a mile long tape?

Sums up my emotions…

I hope Apple embraces Steam and doesn’t act like the pompous faggot of a company they tend to be when it comes to this kind of thing…

:expressionless:

Apple will probably call Steam retarded and come up with their own platform thingy
SMOKE

I’d like Valve and Apple to get along… Why? So I can have glados as the system voice…

No, iVapor.

I am constantly baffled by these so-called “proofs” of those sorts of things, like Linux being their next client. Don’t get me wrong, a port to OSX would make Linux easier, but there is still no authoritative data whatsoever.

-Hiring Linux specialist? This could easily be for the dedicated server, or heck, their internal Steam software servers that they distribute across the country.
-A few lines of something in a scripts folder? This really doesn’t say much of anything at all. It could easily just be shared code with the Linux DS version, or signs of anything else, such as developer experimentation with it.

Conclusion: I cannot rule it out…but the FACT is that there is absolutely no guarantee of a Linux client until Valve says so. So you can stop raving about it.

PS. Even I hate macs, but I’m all for choice. if mac users want to use Steam, I have no problem with that. If you hate macs, take it to your own hate thread so it can be flame-locked.

^ lol. this should be on a list of shit that valve would never do unless they wanted to lose a majority of fan base and money flow in one swoop

^This

I love this!

Mnnn Steam Linux Looks Tasty
elif [ ‘$UNAME’ == ‘Linux’ ]; then
PLATFORM=linux32

prepend our lib path to LD_LIBRARY_PATH

export LD_LIBRARY_PATH="${STEAMROOT}"/${PLATFORM}:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH
fi
Just went and found this in the mac install script… looks pretty

maaaaaaaaaaaaac. shitty os.

Well of course you’re not, bub.

Ok, I couldn’t give two shits about Mac, Mac fails because it’s a year behind. Linux beats mac and also windows. Linux is right for me. Linux was able to update to the new steam update not too long after. Steam works better on linux for hands down.

Ummm no. Steam works best on the original platform that it was made for, and was exclusively running on since 2004 until recent changes, Windows.

Come back and say that when you have good knowledge of the coding changes and requirements?

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
