So I wanna backup modern warfare 3 using steam backup to avoid having to download it again. However, I don’t know if it is necessary to backup both the multilayer and single player parts. Both are the same file sizes so I’m thinking I only need one of em. I don’t think it would make sense to backup both because it would be an insanely large file. So does anyone know if just backing up the single player will install everything? Thanks.
Steam Backup is often unreliable, just copy the game folders directly to another HDD or whatever it is that you’re using.
And don’t forget the content files in the steamapps folder (*.ncf, *.gcf)
To answer your question, if you backup the single player, the multiplayer will then download in a matter of seconds.
copy modern warfare 2 into modern warfare 3 folder, the entire game will download in a matter of seconds
What an original, fresh and hilarious joke, how did you possibly think of that, you’re a genius, I used to be like you until I took an arrow to the knee, the cake is a lie.

Maxey’s finally convinced me that he’s been secretly existing as a totally cool and radical dude this entire time.
Sure, ok.
I’ve moved my entire steam folder across several machines. Just put it in Program Files (x86 if it applies), click on the steam executable, let it do its thing, and then before you play a game, do the “validate integrity of steam cache” or whatever and you should be good to go.
Or this:
I had to do this today because steam refused to work. Wasted three hours uninstalling, reinstalling and updating until it decided I could log in again.
When all else fails delete everything but steam.exe and the steamapps folder.
I did every single one of the usual fixes. But everytime I started steam, it would just hang on the “updating steam platform” part. After reinstalling about 7 times, it decided that it was time to finish updating and not hang at random percentages.
