Steam and Russia

I went to Russia to visit my family there, an also grabbed a couple of games, the Orange Box, and the Half-life Anthology. I managed to register the Orange Box there, but I got the Half-Life Anthology at the last second, and when I tried to register in America, I said that I can’t “Register it in my region.” If anyone knows what to do, please help.

You bought the Steam versions or CD versions?

I bought the CD version, but it’s legal, as I also bought and registered the Orange Box from the same store.

Only works in Russia, I guess…

Contact steam support via Email

I didn’t think you could still get the retail version…

What country are you in now? Maybe it’s to do with regional registration codes.

I am in America right now.

It doesn’t work because in Soviet Russia, games REGISTERS YOU!

(must resist urge to do a “Soviet Russia” joke.)[/SIZE]

God damn it!

Very funny :stuck_out_tongue:
I would give my account details and the CD key to someone in Russia, but I don’t really trust anyone, so should I just use steam support, or should I try to find another way?

Connect via proxy to a russian server, and go from there.

How would I do that?

Just contact Steam support… you might want to also try asking on Steamforums in the Half-Life section.

I tried contacting steam support, but they just said I need to contact the seller for a refund, and I can’t exactly do that. Does anyone here know how to connect to a proxy server?

Steam usually goes around any proxy and connects directly

You need a good VPN tunnel.

What’s a VPN tunnel?

Nevermind, steam doesn’t support proxies. There are ways to enable it, but kind of frowned upon.

I guess you could make a virtual machine that by default connects to a proxy, that way you aren’t modifying steam, but I’m sure there are easier ways.

Like a VPN tunnel.

Just google for a free VPN. If one doesn’t work try the next one.

Anyway I don’t recommend buying games legally in a country like Russia, my friend buys alot of games there and most of them have been downloaded illegally, cracked, badly translated and repackaged.

Thanks for all the help everyone, I decided to just ask my cousin to do.
