StarForge - First public alpha

Since i saw this video and it blew my mind, and it seemed to get good responses, I figured it was too awesome for it not to get its own thread

StarForge - First Playable Release

Basically, this game is like minecraft mixed with halo, with surprisingly nice graphics, physics based movement, voxel environments that are completely destructable (or mineable).

On top of all that, you will be able to go into space without a single loading screen. Eventually you will be able to build up forts and survive against aliens with your friends, or fight competitively and build your own base and mine resources like an RTS, among other things.

But you can go into fucking space from the planet.

Needs more KOTOR.

I played it, it was mostly me being “what the fuck am I doing?!” and “how do I go into space!!?” but I can’t complain, it’s literally the extremely early and very first public build.

That’s an exact description of my playthrough. Except every couple of minutes the screen would go black.

I’m just going to quote myself here…

This looks like it has potential, as does Infinity.

It’s infinitely brilliant, but as for right now, I find it too clunky to get used to. I’m going to wait for the final release of the game myself.

Had a look at this the other day - it has the potential to be really awesome, just needs more content and a bit of polish.

I get the black screen issue if I have the ‘guide’ screen open for too long (any more than a few seconds and everything else goes black) once I start up the game, and it also occurs if I re-open the ‘guide’ screen later on.

EDIT: NOT VOXELS

But can you build a base and defend from aliens?

I don’t really care that it isn’t playable now, it’s surprisingly more playable then 90% of pre-alphas I’ve ever tried, and that’s a feat of its own

This actually looks like a lot of fun…to start, but then looks like it might get boring pretty quickly. Still, worth checking out.

I tried running it & got about 2 frames per second. 3 on the lowest setting.

What are your specs?

No inverted look D:

hmmm… The guy who made terraria is making a version of terraria in Space called Starbound… is it a coincidence?

Its neat a concept, far too early on to decide if its good though.

lrn2 up and down

Invert is 4 pros

only losers use default

Yeah, I’d say it is.

Also Starbound is already more of a game than StarForge. At least for the moment.

Last time I upgraded it was in 2007. I’ll just leave it at that.

What if that was the default?

I’m gonna answer this with:

Been doing it for so long that it’s pretty annoying to try and adapt. This is the main reason I haven’t actually beaten BG&E. Yes, I haven’t beaten BG&E.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
