Oh man, I wish they would close the forum temporarily and re-open it when the mod gets released. Every day I refresh the Cafeteria page and nothing new pops up, except for maybe the random shit thread. But if I don’t open the forum I feel like it’s the day I’ve missed the release. Then I open the forum and the vicious circle closes once again. I swear, it’s a major drag.

Yeah I actually agree with this, dependent upon how soon the mod is coming. Also contingent upon how pronounced any news / release will be.
How would that change if they locked the forum? You’d still come back here every day to see if it had reopened…
We are undoubtly the most loyal fanbase ever, and the most patient, but since people have almost stopped speculating even in the speculating thread, it’s just no fun anymore. Speculation is all i come to the forums for (to post) (and any news on updates)

People really are losing interest for the forums i think.
It’s no wonder everyone is grasping for that tiny teeny little bit of information any developer gives, to dissect it to the extreme to get anything relevant out of it. That’s FUN.
On the other hand, it seems like natedgreat is actually proud to say that there will be SOMETHING end 2010/early 2011… (it feels like: wow how good are we devs to give you guys SOMETHING) and we are like WOW we are getting SOMETHING? Thank you devs for that heavenly gift!
Come on, after their “slightly missed” 2009 release date, a YEARLY official update of anything is THE LEAST to expect, right???

I don’t think anybody claimed they “slightly missed” the update. Unless we’re talking in a context of centuries or millenia, a year is a sizeable miss.
Why would anybody be bothered by the lack of updates? Complaining about a lack of updates seems silly to be bothered about, especially when the devs are very active within the community. Furthermore, because Black Mesa is not a paid-for product, there’s no quid pro quo in anything. We didn’t give them anything, so why should we expect anything back? I’d like updates, I’d like a release, but I’d also like a billion dollars and a yacht filled with dozens of beautiful women, and I don’t like the fact that I don’t have the latter two things (yet…) bother me. If, however, I had given something to the BMS devs and received nothing back, then yes, that would bother me. Just like that Nigerian prince who hasn’t got back to me about that small fortune he needed escorted out of the country.
The devs don’t need a gaggle of fans to keep themselves motivated to develop. Even if the forums were barren, they know that, at release, all the disaffected fans would return in droves. Thus, we have nothing to expect but expectation itself.
The only reason the lack of updates might legitimately bother someone is if they were convinced that a lack of updates translated directly to a lack of progress. Since there’s substantial evidence to the contrary, its not a concern. Hence, no bothering.
clsing the forum doesnt help. if you want to wait unti lthe realse then just only read the “News” forum or look at the main-page only

If they missed the release this year, what’s saying they won’t miss it next year? Or the year after? The constant delays is pretty much a way of the devs telling us that the mod is bad. It’s not them “perfecting” it, it’s just a them making it slightly better than shit.
What the holy FUCK? There has been ONE delay as there has only ever been one release date announced. You can see from the screenshots, trailer and that magazine article that the mod is NOT shit.
