Socialized Healthcare

I originally posted this on TWHL;

What do you guys think about this issue?

tl;dr :3

I am American and I say yes to Socialized Medicine.

Insurance Companies are pretty fail anyway. “Gimme lots of money every month and I’ll help you if you get hurt, maybe.”

I totally agree with you Jeff.

Question, in your given situation how long are you on that “waiting list”? Just looking at the organizations that are currently government run in the states (banks, driving test facilities, etc.) they tend to have terrible hours and extremely slow and inconvenient service.

Depends on how badly you need the organ, how many organs are available etc.

Isn’t there something like older “less important” people also have to wait longer on the waiting list?

I know I’m going to anger some Right-Wing posters here for using TYT videos as a reason for why I support healthcare reform, but…

Other than the standard “BLAME THE CONSERVATIVES” Liberal bias, I think these videos are very legit.

Im very proud of the N.H.S and can’t overstate the amount of good its done in my life, from vaccenes, to sibsidised glases and dental care as a child, drunken mistakes and work place accidents. I already feel I have had my money’s worth and im only 25 so far.

And thats only me ,its helped me indirectly with freinds and relatives who had cancer and other serouse conditions some of whom didnt make it. But they were given the chance to fight as long and as hard as they could and allowed to die in dignity when the time came, without a huge bill landing in their mornning loved ones hands.

Im sure that age plays apart but this idea of a scrap heap for people is a farce, My gran had a treble heart bye pass in her early seventies, an operation whare the chances were not that good, I got to know her for an extra two years and that am incredibly greatfull for.

Allot of the bad stories bieng used by the rightwing media come from the bad days, when the goverment at the time was determined to starve it an kill it. Then to sell off to line their wealthly pockets even more.

Its not perfect, I have known people to have a rough time, but im very happy with what I have. And another piece of information, we still have pivate healthcare It does just fine.

sorry about the rant, I just find it insane that this is even a debate.

What, you didn’t see the video about the child that needs a special helmet so his skull can stay in shape but was denied?
Or how Domestic violence is a “pre-existing condition”?
I know we can never have a “perfect” healthcare system, but this is ridiculous.

Oh, and here’s an off/on topic video that I found:

Brilliant.

Because I’m not going to get any facts by just sitting and starting at a computer screen now am I?

If you would prefer, I could come in here screaming “ZOMG HEALTHCARE REFORM! AGKLJSEAROIJADF!!!”

Well link it or it didnt happen. And your saying he would of got that under heath insurance any way?an hell weve only got the 18th best healthcare in the world must suck to be at 37.

Number 1 for service, we are only number 37 because of people covered. Just throwing that out there. Our health care system is a perfect example of a Capitalist success. No, everyone is not covered, but for those who are, the quality is the best in the world, and we are not giving the government more power than it needs. It already overspends like crazy and doesn’t need this as well.

Here’s another link that I pulled out of my Neutral-but-pretty-damn-Liberal ass:

What does quality matter if no-one gets to use it?

Um, I think thats an oxy-moron. On topic, as I said, we spend a lot because the quality of our accommodations are higher quality. That is not saying that we live longer, obesity kinda kills that, but we die the most comfortably. Again, highest quality of healthcare in the world.

Administrative costs. Does anyone actually believe administrative costs will DECREASE if government tightens regulations or comes in with a government option? Anyone? What will happen is the administrative costs will get shifted (and probably increased) to government agencies. They will still exist. France is seeing that issue now. To save money, they are closing rural hospitals, and INCREASING out of pocket co-pays for their “free” health care. See, France is trying “Americanize” their health care.

Infant mortality rates. Comparing any Western European IMR with the USA IMR is comparing Apples to Grapefruits. Many EU nations (France, Germany, Belgium, etc) have guidelines for Age/Weight/Length as to what constitutes a “live” birth. Preemies born with an A/W/L less than the guidelines, that dies at the hospital even though it was breathing, ISN’T counted as a live birth. In the US, any birth that shows signs of life (heart rate and respiration) is counted as live birth.

Patient satisfaction. The problem with this type of measurement is… what kind of patients are they asking? Are they asking folks who go to the doctor once a year for a checkup, are they asking severely ill people who are in and out of hospitals for years and needing specialized care, or some mixture? See, the folks who only go see the doctor once a year are probably going to be pretty damn satisfied. The true measurement of satisfaction is people who need care above and beyond from specialists. Harvard did a study and found Americans were as or more satisfied with access to specialized care than any other English speaking country (UK,CA,AU) with socialized free health care.

It is a large minority that do not get health care here, so use of the phrase no-one is an extreme exaggeration used all to often by idiot liberals ranting on TV.

EDIT: Oh yeah, almost forgot! We have low tax rates, especially down here in Texas. And we get free-refills. Things here are easily half what they cost over in England, sometimes less, and they are of the same quality.
