So, PlayStation 4.

Seriously, I keep hearing about how badly consoles are holding everything back, but I have yet to play a REAL PC GAEM that makes me think it’s anything more than VIDEOGAEM.

I grew up on Doom, Thief, the original Rainbow Six, Spyro the Dragon, and Crash Bandacoot. I didn’t feel any tug-of-war back then. Right now, I’ve been hopping between pc quake clones, shittons of various source mods, Halo 4, Gears 3, and uncharted2/3. I still don’t feel any fucking tug of war.

Yeah, “progress” is on a leash.

“progress”

As if it’s actually fucking going anywhere. As if it ever was.

“PS4: The Creative Console” haha lmao

edit: holy shit new watch dogs demo yay!

ALL THAT BULLSHIT AND THEY ONLY SHOWED THE FUCKING CONTROLLER.

Fuck.

At least most of the games looked really impressive.

the latest word is the ps4 is going to involve a goose in some respect but its not clear who provides/feeds the geese yet

I’ll admit that it was a tad more impressive than I thought it would end up being.

We shall see.

On a sidenote, I like how nobody laughed at their jokes. :stuck_out_tongue:

tha Watch Dogs video i liked how smooth the gameplay felt.

8 gb of gddr5 ram was a bit of a surprise. After everyone complaining the current consoles didn’t have enough ram, now you have more ram than you can shake a stick at.

Can’t wait to see what Naughty Dog or Polyphony Digital will do with that.

a lot of memory is gonna be cool but im not so sure about the all wax construction. sounds like it could get pretty hot and i dont want my €700 console to melt straight away

that voxel sculpting thing actually looks pretty cool.
but seriously

So someone correct me if I’m wrong, but they said the way digital distribution will work is that the game will install only the needed files at first and then launch while it’s still downloading (kind of like how Halo 2 worked on the PC) right? I didn’t hear that wrong?

Because that sounds really nice.

Honestly, the fanbitching about this announcement is totally stupid. Oh they didn’t show what the stupid box that’s going to be sitting under your stupid TV looks like. How ever will you be able to plan your Ikea living room set to match it?

Sony announced a shit ton of software, and a lot of it looks good. The specs sound solid, and it seems like Sony is moving towards a very developer-centric approach. All signs point to a good console. Backwards compatibility I’m not too concerned about. It was worth losing for them to ditch Cell.

Sure, but it’s giving me WiiU announcement deja vu, where they only showed the gamepad.

I’m starting to think the PS4 will also literally just be a simple block like the WiiU, so it wasn’t worth showing yet.

The new Dual Shock is indeed a more refined design than the leaked prototype shot we saw and I kinda like it, although it would be even cooler if the touchpad was actually a touchscreen.

All in all, it was an okay presentation. The games shown looked great and there was the usual embarrassing stuff. Hope they show more stuff soon.

Diablo PS3 Hahaha.

I think World of Warcraft does that. You could stream the game while you’re still downloading it.

This conference, and the PS4 in general, has exceeded my expectations. Watch Dogs was really the only game they showed that interests me (and I’ll be picking it up for PC) but I’m positive it’ll have some nice games down the line and a lot of the stuff they showed was pretty cool. Does anyone know where I could watch the Watch Dogs demo though? My stream was messing up a bit during it.

Edit: Never mind, found it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bO-wbMm73go

Watch Dogs looks pretty amazing, but I really hope that they don’t try to overdo the themes of privacy invasion and evil corporations. I’m more than a bit tired of them.

Edit: Watching the second demo, it looks like they’re actually not portraying it in a negative light, so that’s one concern addressed.

What was the point of showing it at this conference then?

It was a PC built to PS4 spec, apparently.

@ Pyro- as far as the surveillance thing, it seems to be coming off like Person of Interest- acknowledging the very real risks to privacy but using it as the central plot conceit, positively and negatively. To roughly paraphrase William Gibson, no technology is inherently good or evil. It’s all in how you use it, and who uses it.

Well fuck, I just bought a PS3…What will be the price of this anyway?
1000 euros I guess?

The controller looks kinda like one of those off-brand Dualshock 2/3 controllers. Seems like they at least got the joysticks right, finally.

Not sure if I wanna watch this Watch Dogs footage. I like to put off game footage until I play it myself.
