So Mininova is Dead ?

There isn’t even a problem with PC gaming, it isn’t dying. Stop trying to somehow “scare” us out of downloading. God, you’re worse than reefer madness. “And it could happen to your platform. And yours. AND MAYBE EVEN YOURS!!”

I don’t know everything thats been said… I’ve been raiding various posts for a while and I can’t bother to read the entire topic.

Pirating is there and this is how the world is right now. There are people pirating games no matter what. Screw them.

I give my money if they deserve it, if they make me feel like they care about their customers, if the game is good, and if its not EA. The ability to play online properly can also be a reason to give the money.

I certainly bought a lot of Valve games. But they deserve it. Now, thats how it is these days. Customers decide if the games are worth their bucks. This is how it is. And personally, the little money I have goes to Valve and Blizzard.

Also, the PC is dying is a joke, like Pirating was the cause. Well guess what, consoles get a shit load of pirating. Not as much as the PC, I’m sure, but still. Again, this is how things are now.

I think I can solve this whole issue of right, wrong, and pirating with a simple Bible verse…

ahem

“And Elisha went up from thence unto Bethel: and as he was going up that way, there came forth little children of the city, and mocked him, and said unto him, Go up, thou bald head; Go up, thou bald head. And he turned back, and looked on them, and cursed them in the name of the LORD. And there came forth two she bears out of the wood and tare forty and two children of them.” ~2 Kings 2:23-24

So don’t pirate games or you’ll get mauled by she bears

Bible != Right and wrong

While I do not agree that PC gaming is dying I say that more companies are not supporting the PC community like they are used to, maybe it sounds like I’ve been spoilt the whole time but it was nice, the PC gaming community can be a company’s best friend or worst enemy. And so far we’ve been shrugged off and piracy is a factor of this (maybe a small one or maybe a large one but it’s still there).

wats a mininova?

something :stuck_out_tongue:

I think it’s kinda like a supernova, but smaller.

Honestly, nothing of real value was lost with the demise of mininova. We shall overcome.
:pirate:

I don’t think that’s a good thing. I wish you wouldn’t overcome and start playing the game properly.

Well, mininova isn’t really dead, it just went legit.

So it’s dead.

pretty much indeed

so what you are trying to proof is that you have absolutely never downloaded a mp3, Video or game?

OT: so mininova was the shit… but nou there is room to grow another site … it only takes a couple of months … till then: Usenet steam and torrenz.com

When I was young (this was before many of you were even born! swings cane), I went libraries for my research needs (this was even before the Internet was available to the masses). There, they had photocopiers. What were they used for? Most often, people had taken books off the shelves and were copying them and taking the copies home.

Question to all the “piracy = stealing” folks: Is this theft of the book?

If you take the book and leave the copy, yes. otherwise, no.

What about borrowing a game from a friend? Is that piracy if only he bought it and I loan it from him and then give it back?

As far as I’m concerned, it’s OK if you pirate things that you have a hells chance of ever seeing again. Duke Nukem 3d, Half-Life 2: Raising the Bar etc

No, but it’s copyright infringement.

I download games I am unsure of and then buy them if I like em… delete em if I don’t
eg Titan Quest, first torrented, now I own it on steam
and red faction guerilla I own but I downloaded it first as I was unsure of wether I wanted it.

Why didn’t I do a Demo? I did and guess what, the red faction guerilla demo doesn’t show me how the actual game will feel.

I would rent but norway is a little on the… low side when it comes to game rental, though I can rent Gamecube games haha xD.

people say its the same as stealing a car you want, its not.
you can’t get demo’s for cars and you can’t understand the car by seeing videos of it, but you can go to a car store and “Try” a car for 30 minutes for free if you show interest of buying.

Torrentfreak claims Mininova has lost 70% of their visitors in a few days time. At this rate the site will be dead in no time.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
