Small wonder Diablo 3 sucks.

I meant the word , Paragon

Oh no, I spent money on a game ODB doesn’t like and admitted to regretting it!

IDK if anything in WoW has the word Paragon or not, but I would bet that Mass Effect made it popular recently.

…mind playing the game for your self first before making “Dotard” statements.

Having played Torchlight, the game is good. Sure it could use a few things, but it’s old and was a new IP the dev’s didn’t expect it to be as good as it was. There aren’t many differences from Diablo to Torchlight with the main one being Torchlight is a Dungeon crawler.

Torchlight II is a whole new ball game, which fixes exactly that and then some. I am anticipating the release greatly, and I hope that it won’t be a let down like D3, if it get’s the chance it might be able to beat Diablo II.

on topic, I find this whole situation funny. I wish I knew what turned Blizzard into game-pimps, whoring out all of their good titles(except Starcraft II). Honestly I think they might screw up the Heart of the Swarm(I hope not though).

Edit: I am waiting for Path of exile too, but I don’t feel like dishing out the cash for the beta right now, maybe later though(probably not since it looks like public beta will start soon.)

Over all, I wish I didn’t buy the thing at $50 expecting it to be as good as Diablo II…

Over all, the combat part of it was good, some of the items were alright, I DONOT like the systems. That’s what irked me about the game. While this is a shit storm, it’s expected with that kind’ve derogatory statement.

Warning - Wall of Text[/SIZE]

Over all, the flaws with it is that it’s not similar to Diablo II. It’s not mile-high expectations, it’s the fact that the game was a HUGE flop after it got released. Let me explain some of my pet peeves with the game…

  1. The skill system doesn’t allow for customization in the same way Diablo or Diablo II did. Yeah, it allows for runes and such, but it doesn’t give the same depth as the previous installments. It was half-baked.

1a) Cool downs with switching skills on the fly (fast-switching) this pissed me off royally. In Diablo II you had a constantly evolving situation with monsters, more so in PvP (Uber_Reviver was my PvP character) beyond the hacks that ran rampant before I quit, what made it so enjoyable was the constantly evolving and potentially lethal situations that give you that rush of adrenaline. Those situations required you to switch skills on the fly, you can’t do that anymore and you’re likely to end up dead as a result.

1b) You can’t spend points into skills or spells, as a result, you don’t get the same customization. Some spells would be more powerful while some others wouldn’t be as powerful.

1c) You’re likely to NOT get a horde of minions to play with, at the most you get a few critters to play with if you’re lucky and they’re no where near as useful as the skeletons or revived in Diablo II. That irked me even more, but that’s just a pet peeve of mine with dungeon crawlers or medieval RPGs in general, if you’re going to have a mage you should be allowed to summon a large group of minions. I understand engine restrictions, but seriously, how many fucking games do you see with real minions. But that’s just my pet peeve, not really relevant to the topic.

1d) everything is based off of your fucking weapon damage. That pissed off a lot of people, including me. It’s all gear-based, no skill anymore. You get the most powerful weapon you can get and try to make yourself a glass cannon. For melee and ranged skills, I can understand the weapon damage thing. But for spells, no. Just no, you’re oversimplifying things at that point.

  1. Fixed stats on your characters, again taking away customization that were in the previous installments.

2a) Taking away the customization makes it bland in terms of making your character to suit your needs.

you want to make a glass cannon? Invest in your damage stat.

Want life and tanking potential? Invest in life or the stat the helps you tank.

Want more of agility? Invest in the movement stat.

Bing, you have a customized character, once you got the hang of it you can just re-stat your character to the proper thing or re-stat it to suit your needs in that particular instance. It was a learning process, that’s what made it fun.

It’s rated for mature players, if you’re old enough to buy the game, you should be old enough to figure out how to work the systems to utilize your character.

  1. Removal of systems that worked in the previous installments.

3a) Attack speed going for everything that involves casting or otherwise. Designing your ideal build and skill lay out made Diablo II one of the best RPGs I’ve played. Period. They shot that with over-simplifying the systems.

3b) No faster hit recovery (FHR for the D2 lay man) that ALSO irked me.

EDIT: 4) The bosses.

4a) All the bosses were good besides Diablo. It wasn’t beefy enough for the one we all know and love, I can understand the female-ish look, but COME THE FUCK ON! He’s a demon lord for fucks sake he’s SUPPOSED TO BE BEEFY.

TL;DR They shot themselves in the foot by catering to noobs and butchering the systems in the title. Every god damn character is the same even if you get the different gear to swap out.

If I was the project lead I would’ve left the original systems in place and just built it from there. Unfortunately, they didn’t think and it really shot themselves with it.

Also, ODB, game’s okay, but I wouldn’t consider getting it in your shoes either. It sucks in terms of being a successor to the Diablo series. It’s more a Diablo 1.5 and not Diablo III…

Bob, It’s not only me who knew that the game was going to be shit.
But ye, it’s amazing how the game sold this much purely on franchise name, despite all the red flags.

About paragon - regardless, it fits as good into the lore as the painteresque ‘wow trying to parody Diablo’ art style.

P.S. I also like how blizzard lemming fanboys/employees on battle.net go on about how apparently D2 mechanics were bad now that D3 devs were called out for their bullshit and how apparently we all are wearing nostalgia glasses. Everyone seems to forget about deliberate lack of attention from support to bots and dupes.

^ I bought it out of the fact it had the Diablo label, played it for the continuation, not for anything else. I got bored after a 'bout a month of it. It’s no where near the same.

Also, I track the blog from time to time. They’re just shitting on the game further. It’s sad…

Also: If you’re going to buy it expecting it to be like Diablo II, don’t. If you want it for the lore and such, go ahead, or better yet, save your money and just read a walk-through.

Lore is pathetic POS from what I saw. Music is also faux-epic shit.

It was all apparent for me ever since I saw what they did with their intricate tim burton style-over-substance art.
Wasn’t hard to forecast that everything else would follow. Their attitude - which would culminate later with Whimsyshire (seriously, that shows how much they deliberately wanted to shit on the franchise) - further cast any doubts aside.

Fuck em.

P.S. Just found this gem.

Whoever wrote this, it makes me wanna snap his fucking neck.

this threads pretty hilarious, mainly the responses.

it’s funny how worked up some people get over a video game

@ bur: Exactly!

Now release Black Mesa, goddamn devs!! :stuck_out_tongue:

…Wow!

LOL! I love this thread and this community, some of the most entertaining I’ve ever been on.

As for the Blizzard Devs, they made their bed, so fuck em.

P.S. I like D3 (not as much as the first two), I like Torchlight. I make no apologies for my tastes in games, music, movies and life in general.

I actually thought that Brevik’s original comments were well said and actually very polite to the designers. He didn’t say, “IT WAS SHIT”, he simply stated that they went a different direction than he would have.
But the devs got overly butt hurt and exploded in a rage of denial.

People buying a sequel doesn’t mean that your game is good. It means that the previous games were good. When 60% of your userbase drop off after a few months then you really need to take a good look at why this has happened.

I was going to buy it, but then I played my brother’s copy and while I thought it was an ok game (it’s really not a terrible game) it just wasn’t really that interesting. I played for maybe 2 hours and actually got bored. Hell, I did thousands of Baal runs back in the LOD days and somehow still kept coming back, so the fact that I didn’t manage more than a few hours of D3 is saying something. They somehow lost the addictiveness of D2. If D2 was heroin, D3 is a syringe full of sugar water.

Playing a demon hunter or with your friends is fun enough though.

But yeah other classes in singleplayer is pretty boring. It’s a fine enough game, just not the best succesor to one of the best action RPGs in the world. They would’ve been better off at making it an off-spring instead of a game in the official series.

This, so much of this.

I got about 8 hours out of Diablo 3. Had several server problems. Had some fun, then got bored. Moved on.

I know you guys are talking about Diablo 3 and the hissy fit that went down. But as some guys mentioned Starcraft 2, I just wanna say, its the bomb. Its old school gameplay with new school graphics, arcadey, chaotic with lots of interactivity and choice / decision making and a stupidly high learning curve. It rocks.

They made Starcraft 1, they knew how it worked, and understood what not to change. They just “inherited” Diablo, with no understanding about what made the games so enjoyable.

I remember I was so excited when they released the first D3 gameplay with the Barbarian, watched it with a friend who was excited too while I was sleeping over his house.

Next day, I wake up and he’s watching it again, all of a sudden saying how shitty it’s gonna be. I defended the game a lot, and that was that. Fast forward to May, my brother bought the game, and I played it and did not enjoy it one bit.

I enjoyed Diablo 1 and 2 for the feeling of playing them and because of how much atmosphere they had, especially the first one. Diablo 3 seems to have supplemented atmosphere for one-color tinted fog in every area, and I just didn’t enjoy combat. I could care less about the spiffy new ragdoll physics.

Aside from all that, I still love both D1 and D2. I loved the feeling in D1 of exploring and coming across the lore narrations, and also how vulnerable you feel. It was less so in D2, but the whole feeling of the game was damn absorbing, made me want to play, and the story was simple in both, yes, but the older games had really good storytelling methods, and it helped to build the atmosphere. D2, IMO wasn’t as interesting as D1, but it made up for it with the improvements and added addictiveness to the gameplay. I gave D3 several chances, and I just did not find one thing I liked about it. It felt like one of those cheap diablo ripoffs rather then an actual diablo game.

Well, I think we should all fuck Blizzard up the ass and make our own version of Diablo 3 on Source.

j/k but it would be cool

I actually had a dream a while back that I was playing a remake of Diablo 1 and 2 combined on CryEngine 3. It was pretty sick.

Already up to the second to last difficulty with my guy, stopped playing because I was waiting for act 3 to be added. I love the flask system in the game.

I really hope the customizable “map” system for end-game dungeons works out well

I fucking hated that. Too many times I made characters without a following a build and 2 acts in I got my ass kicked. Maybe I just don’t like juggling numbers outside of study.
Stupidly, Diablo 2 was the only game that actually pisses me off in that regard.

That I agree with. Even though I liked the painted art style they were going for but, when you get down to it, it’s not really Diablo. Gothic artstyle and somewhat grim and dirty feel was always it in my opinion. Instead everything looked just way too bright and exaggerated.
The combat is pretty okay though. Still like the combat better than in Diablo 2. It’s more… Run aroundy?
