My older sister’s boyfriend does mountain biking, and he asked me if I could make a logo for him. So he gave me a basic outline of what he wanted that he did in paint:

It’s not much, but it’s just a simple logo. I’m also kind of a novice, so any suggestion would be appreciated and creative criticism encouraged. Also, I was wondering if anyone knew of a nice font that might go with this and match the style a bit?
Would look a lot better without the shadow. If it were just a black background it’d look ace.

Ye indeed. You always have to keep in mind that a logo has to fit on any type of background and in any size. If you really want to smooth it out, you could add a faded shadow around the edges (with no distance nor direction) so it can remain strong on lighter background.
Also, I’d opt for slightly less popping colors. A slightly more orange yellow, and a slightly faded orange. The black could also do with a dark dark gray, so it would benefit from the gloss you added. My main problem is the gear-bit in the middle. All the other stuff in the logo has this shadow/gloss thing going on, but the yellow-black bits are as flat as Fats Domino’s face.
I did a similar logo last summer for a WoW guild I was in (not saying it’s any better, just showing what I meant with what I said above)
Ah yes! The bit in the middle always bothered me as looking flat too, I’ll try to add some gloss to it. I really like the idea of a dark grey instead of black, but I think the yellow and orange are the colors the guy wants, I’ll have to talk with him more about it to make it look good for what he needs. Also, I have a version with an alpha background, but I just sort of decided to post the black one
