And you are speaking for who?
It’s simply just your opinion, right?
I for myself played HL1 at release and HL2 at release and I like HL2 even more, because of different aspects. So you see, that your thesis isn’t correct.
So please keep in mind: There are different opinions and not only yours!
It is true everyone’s opinion is different. Even though they might’ve loved HL before, they might like HL2 more now. As times move on, people get used to “Next-Gen Graphics” and such, its an involuntary thing. Although i still love HL, its not for its graphics right now. (Besides the fact i can run it in Battery Mode in my laptop! )
And now i even like HL2’s gameplay more than HL. (Slightly more!) 10 or heck even 5 years later HL2’s graphics may seem outdated (They slightly already do, but not Ep2’s) but that still won’t stop people from loving it.
Well the point of all this is, as times move on, we keep wanting something better and better. But right now all this discussion is moot, since we’r doin it at a Half Life Remake Forum. :retard:
I never said it was crappy, I just said that HL2 is better in a number of ways. With the remake, I expect them to retain all the things I like about the original, and bring the parts I don’t up to HL2’s standard. Although sometimes I have my doubts.
Although i said i love HL but not for the sake of its graphics, i didn’t mean i hated it. And like you i love it for the Nostalgia. I still play mods for HL. But riddle me this, whose graphics would you like more, Far Cry’s or Crysis’s?
HL graphics aren’t bad. They are just “dated”.
Thats the fault then. The feeling is altogether different when you’d have played it in its era. Its not your fault, everyones tastes are different.
Source is good but mostly for a second playthrough. First times should always be through the original, always. And so far, I think HL original would run faster than the source version.
Oh and coldroll, for your sig, click on insert image and then add the link.
Not exactly. Except for maybe a little bit of Goldeneye multiplayer at a friends house, the only first person games that I’ve ever played before Half-Life was Metroid Prime 1 & 2. I didn’t have other FPS’ to compare it to, and as for the graphics, sure they seemed dated, but within a good few minutes I forgot all about them.
I had a harder time adjusting to a keyboard and mouse. Which is funny, because now I have to re-adjust myself to gamepads every time I play a shooter on a console.
Any particular reason? I mean, they’re really not that different.
Its got a few bugs. And although i prefer the ragdoll deaths, hearing the thud after they die and fall down is somethin else. Besides its just a matter of taste.
And don’t you find surprising that no one found the same faults as you did?
Maybe because most people played it before HL2 was released.
Anyway, to each his own. I loved Half life and thats why am here.
You SHOULD play HL1 very soon and very hard or you won’t be able to enjoy to the fullest when you are playing BM:S, since we all will run through the corridors and just go like: “WOW AAAWWWWRRRRSSMMMM, TEH UBERBBQLOLROFL REMAKE, LOOKS AT TEH LEET SODA MACHINE!!!111zomgz”
Half Life 2 is simply better, because it’s Half Life’s sequel. It open’s the story, the characters that survived, the toll that the Earth took after Freeman’s foolsih acts in the test chamber(lol). That doesn’t mean that anyone here will be enjoying Half Life any less, but Half Life 2 answered many questions, that were left after the 1st one. Didn’t all of us had that wide ass smile on out faces, when Barney took off his mask and said “about that beer i owe ya”? That’s why Half Life 2 will always be a “little” better than the original.
As for the graphical aspect of the games, both of them were revolutionary of their times, so it’s not really comparable. Half Life 2 introduced alive characters and facial animations, combined with realistic environment’s physics and art style. Half Life on the other hand, introduced a cinematic opening, clever A.I. and a way to make you feel guilty, about your actions in the test chamber!
I prefers HL1, just because that’s the beginning of all. The fact that it’s a normal day for a scientist, and suddenly all becomes wrong. Aliens, then army, then special forces fall on us, everybody is fighting everywhere, and nobody knows exactly what is happening. Even Freeman is doing mistake by launching a satellite which will be used by the Cartel. HL1 has more chaos, tension, than HL2. It is more epic. HL2 is more fighting against establishment, sneaking, evade, running away, it has not all the density of the first.
A characteristic of the first, which is not an advantage or a convenience, is that the goal is very classical : to kick some alien boss ass. In reality, story is more complicated, but as gamer we are just waiting for such a thing, at the time we saw our first headcrab. It is just a habit. And that’s what happenned at the end. In HL2, I have the impression that the goal (to take down) Breen is less spectacular.
Sorry for my english.
edit : HL² managed to increase gradually the reputation of Gordon in the resistance, and I found that it’s very well made.
