Settlers 7 and Ubisoft DRM

So the Settlers 7 has recently come out and I’ve been really interested in buying it. However I’ve heard that it uses this new DRM thing by Ubisoft that requires you to stay online all the time or you get kicked off. I’ve also heard that the ubisoft servers are not the most reliable and will sometimes kick you off even if you are online.

Now I’m primarily a laptop gamer and you can see how this could be a problem. I also like to be able to play a single-player game offline or online as I choose.

My question is this: I saw the game on steam and was wondering if I bought the steam version would it use steam’s own copy protection or Ubisoft’s, because I know that steam has an offline mode.

Thanks muchly.

Ubisoft games on Steam use Ubisoft’s new DRM, so yeah, you can’t escape it.

sigh… perhaps i can use a crack…

Yeah, maybe, I’m not familiar with that kind of thing cough

*cough cough cough… hey, I think I found it.

Yes, it is kinda lame, these 3RD party publishers on steam use both steams copy protection and the host developer DRM. Your best bet in installing a Ubisoft virtual response server on your laptop or a replacement executable. You can find one at you nearest bay.

EDIT: :ninja:

If you really want to, you could get a console copy.

is only for pc. btw. what is “virtual response server”

Most likely a Ubisoft server emulator. It’s a crack that “tells” the game that it is connected to their servers even if the computer is not connected to the internet.

Yeah. Ubisoft DRM cracks are out and about. And please, buy a used version of the game so as to not directly support Ubisoft’s DRM.
