September 11 Quran Burning

It was a joint effort, but the US is more at the forefront of this current Qu’ran burning problem so I mentioned it specifically.

Not quite the same thing, E-Nelson.

One is building a community center for anyone of any faith (or no faith at all) to enjoy. The other is committing an act of religious bigotry.

But from an athiestic perspective, both are insulting another group of people who really shouldn’t be insulted.

Also, stop deluding yourselves. Its a mosque. A meeting place where Muslims can pray. Simple as that. They’ve tacked on a community center, aimed at spreading awareness of Islamic culture, but its role is primarily a mosque.

And what’s so wrong about that? Why can’t people get through their heads that it’s not some sort of “victory” for Muslims if it’s built, and that it has as much to do with 9/11/terrorists as an average US Christian church has to do with a Christian fanatic murdering someone who doesn’t agree with him?

I’m not saying there is anything wrong with it, I’m just tired of people calling it a “cultural center” just to appease people. If you’re going to debate, use the proper term.

It would be cool to burn a pile of Q’urans if you start the fire with a pile of burning bibles that was started by a pile of burning torahs that was started by a barrel of burning crude oil that was started by a bottle of burning rum that was lit by a burning joint that was lit by a burning fart. That way everyone is included

Yea! Fuck those Muslims and niggers and their fucking riots and violence! Do they live in the dark ages or something, like wtf? Can’t they just be like real humans and live in peace with each other?

Well, only one or two floors are going to be prayer space…for multiple faiths.

The rest is going to be recreation space. It’s like the mosque is actually tacked on to the center.

I don’t buy this “It’s an insult to build the center there” meme, to be honest. Anyone who is truly insulted are ignorant of Islam and rather disgusting themselves; these are hard working Americans that are building this center as an attempt to reach out to other faiths in peace.

Instead, what happens? ZOMFGTHEYMUSLIMNOOOOO! > :frowning:

Meanwhile, you’ve got this moron doing nothing but purposefully antagonizing our enemy and moderates.

I’m an atheist and don’t really care for any scripture, but the idea of burning books, on whatever subject, reeks heavily with…well, you know.

I heard that 30 of the 50 people left his congregation. My question becomes:

What the heck are those other 20 thinking?

I would leave in a heartbeat.

Shit’s fucked up mang.

America only got to Nuclear weapons first because many Physics scientists from Europe fled to USA out of fear of Nazis. All it would take was two or three scientists to instead join the Nazis, and the first nuke would have detonated over London, New York, or any other “Allied” city.

In essence, USA got lucky in their attempts to purchase brains from overseas.

Besides, it seems to me that due to the constant degradation of the value of education in the West, USA’s general population is getting dumber and dumber, just as it is in “Western Europe”. Before long, Asia will take over, and it will catch us all by surprise.

The Soviet Union on the eastern front was a far greater threat to Nazi Germany than all other allies combined. They’d have probably nuked them first.

ITT: Anger about the original topic, some bigotry, some butthurtedness when I talk about my personal beliefs, and then a history discussion.

Oh, don’t get me wrong. The English are just as bad. We have layabouts, scruffy scum bags who sit around claiming benefits all day. But the problem is, we had enough them to begin with. This country lets people in regardless of there condition and what they can offer to the country.

The UK seriously needs a points based system like AUS, so we can filter out all the useless layabouts who are filling this country up. You lot can call me racist all you want. Its just simply not true. You don’t like me telling how it is over here? Fine, don’t read this. But don’t have the cheek to call me racist because i’m not pretending everything’s fine and we can get along. I’m just telling it as it is.

The same thing is happening in Belgium, but I don’t see how kicking out foreigners would help, at all (unlike a majority of the Belgian (read: Flemish) people, apparently).

The government shouldn’t be thinking about how it can stop foreigners from coming to the country and exploiting welfare and similar institutions (with “don’t let them in” and “kick them all out” being shitty solutions). Instead it should find a solution on how to deal with everyone who exploits welfare and similar institutions.

And because of that, the “we already have enough” argument is just flat out irrational and blatantly without any thought. More often than not, it’s the foreigners who actually take the crummy jobs that the native population consider “inferior” and refuse to do. Yes, there are rotten apples in every barrel, but does that mean you have to destroy the entire batch of barrels and completely halt the production of additional barrels?

Boot and halt the foreigners (because that’s what you want, apparently), and your entire economy would crumble. Boot and halt the freeloaders, regardless of race or gender, and your entire economy will boom.

Anyway, Jones is willing to cancel the burning if he’s allowed to have a talk with the Imam of the New York Moqsue/Community Center tomorrow.

But they will be geared towards muslims, from what I hear. Plus, will any other faiths actualy go there? I doubt it. We have enough churches, and the bible says you don’t even need one to pray (interesting little feature), so it is going to serve the purpose a mosque, with the cultural center largely serving as a meeting place for Muslims. Not that there is anything wrong with that.

So it would be politically correct for muslims not to build a mosque in New York anymore, just because a handful of religious extremists did some seriously fucked up shit there?

The mosque cannot even be seen from Ground Zero. If mass media hadn’t spread provocative news about it, noone would even have noticed it being built.

Comparing the building of a religious gathering place with the burning of books is so dumb, I cannot even find proper words for it.
Forget about the one thing being an act of creation with a peaceful intention (bringing together people of different faiths) and the other being a destructive act of provocation.

In other words:

MUSLIMS: Hey guyz we’re really sorry for what happened in your city and we have this idea of building this meeting and gathering place for people of different faiths where we could learn to know and understand each other a little bit better, so you can see that not all of us are extremists, radicals or terrorists… and it could be a few blocks away from Ground Zero, so it wouldn’t take too long to walk from the one place to the other in case someone should be interested… so wut u think?

Christian Fundamentalists: FUCK U GUYZ WE GONNA BURRRRN UR Q’RAAAAN!

You misunderstand me. I don’t want to kick them out. I understand that the economy would collapse if that was to happen. Thats not what i want. I want a points based system, so we only allow people into the country who will have something valuable to contribute.

Or you could get a system that doesn’t reward people that have nothing of value to contribute?

That would fix the problem of the mooching kind of foreigners coming to the country with the sole purpose of exploiting the welfare system, and fix the problem of mooching natives that feel too good about themselves to actually get a job because welfare pays them enough. And all of this is achieved without any xenophobic undertone.

there was a news story a few days ago about websites advertising antwerp as being a paradise for exploitation, where the social and medical services are completely free. Sadly, it is, and their budgets are getting emptied by foreigners with no jobs, leaving actual citizens without support. And then there’s the groups that go on a hunger strike to stay in the country, sometimes supported by churches.

Oh god, another soul that is foolishly following Flemish nationalist propaganda. If you honestly believe that the budgets are being spent on foreigners with no jobs, then you’re just one foolishly misinformed kid.
