Self-learning C++?

I’d like to make an attempt to learn some coding over this summer. What sort of resources should I take advantage of? Can you recommend any textbooks? (I picked C++ since Source uses it and I’d like some more control over my mod’s behavior.)

Any suggestions are most welcome.

I think it’s a little too late to try and join the System Shock 2: Source mod team.

OH DEAR GOD NO

No, this is for my own mod, actually. I was hoping to tweak some damage values and AI responses.

This little thing is p. good.

I looked it up on the US Amazon as well! I’ll have to check this out, looks interesting!

If you’ve got any good results, please let me know as well! I’ve been putting off learning it for at least 5 years.

Your best bet is to run through https://c.learncodethehardway.org/book/ until you get stuck.

After that read some articles on game engine design practice and start building tiny modular engines.

The most important step is to do no more than 4 hours a day, but make sure you do it every single day. Don’t burn yourself out, and keep at it non-stop. You’ll advance very quickly.

Doing basics like linked lists, trees, hashs, and sorting algorithms are very good learning exercises.

I lol’d

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
