Security guards

They did. In one of the parts where they showed the AK being fired, the had the cleaning rod loose so it would look like the AK was flimsy.

In terms of accuracy, I’ve been able to hit just as many targets with an AK as with a 16. But that’s just on a range. Since the Army has yet to get my paperwork straight, it could be a while before I see how one fairs in a combat situation.

Because as we all know the HL2 citizens just ploughed through enemies like a knife through butter once they picked up the AR2, right? I mean, you didn’t even need to move your trigger finger for the rest of Anticitizen 1 or Follow Freeman once they picked up some bigger guns, right?

“Reload Dr. Freearrgghh”

There is some truth in that statement that I would like to address: Barneys (Trained Security Guards) in HL were generally weaker than most enemies you encountered, while Citizens (Bums) in HL2 were more powerful than any enemy that they encountered in the game (with the exception of synths). Whatever results this thread may or may not yield in the actual mod, I don’t want it so that the Barneys are actually useful in any form. At all. Just keep it the way it was in the original.

Does anyone know if the guard ai going to be like the rebels from half life 2 or a modified version.

Keeping the Barney’s useless will make me sad. It’s almost like leaving in bugs if you stay with old crappy AI…

I’m pretty sure that the devs are giving barney new AI. I just think that what Master Chef was saying is that Barney should not have tactics as the soldiers. Basicly I think he doesn’t want barney to steal all his kills and make the game too easy.

Bitches don’t be knowing 'bout my gold AK!

Will you die if they don’t? Will the game be ruined for you? Will this add anythiing to the game, really?

Well with that attitude why do anything at all?

Why indeed.

No.

Barneys were not weaker than headcrabs and zombies, and only a bit weaker than vorts. Citizens were not more powerful than Combine soldiers. Barneys that are useless are, well, useless, and none of what you described was like it was in the original anyway. Try and fail less in your next post.

Barneys in Half-Life were actually pretty durable. I’ve seen a Barny solo a Marine with his pistol and win.

I’d like to see YOU try and make a not-fail post if your user name was Master Chef. I think it’s a physical impossibility.

Well, according to his avatar he IS HE EPIC FAIL GUY.

Further proof that he is indeed incapable of providing a post with even trace amounts of win.

Security guards can be killed by anything bigger than a zombie, which is just about every enemy in the game. They can be killed by a fucking bullsquid, which is cannon fodder. They can be killed by grunts, who are cannon fodder. They can be killed by Vorts, who are cannon fodder. If every cannon fodder enemy excluding headcrabs/zombies can kill someone, that should say a lot about their combat effectiveness. As in, they really suck and only serve as ammo crates that can walk and talk.

As for HL2, I probably meant to say rebel instead of citizen, but that hardly matters as they both function the same and look the same. They still win in a fight between them and a combine soldier or two, with their higher health count and accuracy.

Now I realize Raw_bean probably had a bad day, like, a really shitty day that likely involved a bird shitting in his face or getting into a fender bender or something, and vented his anger by flaming a perfectly reasonable post that I made based off of in-game experience, but I will ignore him for now. Hopefully he was posting in the wrong thread instead of here: https://www.blackmesasource.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1223

The point is, don’t make the guards any more or less powerful than they were in the original; that is the whole point of this mod. I don’t think that you should seriously rely on them as squad mates, as you did not in the original. I just don’t want to see these guards turn into some sort of glorified rebel.

There, is that better?

I retract my previous statement regarding your fail level. Not because I agree with your argument, but because of this:

See how much more brilliant you are now? When the articulation and calmness of your last post is considered, It’d be easy to believe that your first 200 posts were joke-posts to break the ice. Maybe they were

That said, the security guards in HL1 were so easy for enemies to kill that they seemed almost to be mentally retarded. For ten years, I have sat and watched the first Barney get eaten alive while standing perfectly still and letting a zombie claw him, then taking his weapon and killing that same zombie in three shots. They just had no brains.

Plus, IIRC (which I so rarely do, so please, feel free to violently correct me), they’re using the citizen’s AI for combat. Verification, please? Correction? Flaming?

Well, they made custom AI for the Marines, Controllers, and several other enemies, so it would make sense if the Guard AI was custom, too.

You could be right. My subconscious has a habit of pulling stuff out of its ass and calling it memories.
