Security guards

No worries then, they will grab a more powerful weapon, but only when they are following you. And if you already have that weapon.

Last I heard they will pick up more suitable weapons when they find them.

I agree about the beretta in some ways. You can’t deny that it’s a better looking gun by far… if a gun can be good looking. The glock just looks ugly - square and blocky; the sort of pistol that a child draws, but it’s growing on me. Can’t wait to see what it’s like to fire it in the game. No doubt there will be more mods to replace the pistol though.

That would be a valid point, except that the BM glock model is freakin’ glorious. I’m betting it shoots golden rays of well-textured orgasmic divinity at your enemies. That’s how beautiful it is.

As long as it doesn’t make that stupid “pew pew” noise it made in HL1.

Don’t remember BM trailer :stuck_out_tongue: ? At 0:55 Gordon is killing houndeyes with the glock.
May I say that design depend on people but for me the glock is better than a beretta which has a common design in firearm industry. Plus the glock has the advantages of firing in any condition (under water, sand, etc.) and a bigger ammo clip.
But has I just sais, it’s up to personnal opinion and you’re right, surely some new skins’ll be available after the release.

EDIT : Maybe this one is better ?

The Beretta may be the military’s weapon of choice, but the grunts in HL didn’t have pistols. That and security personel would prefer the Glock for all reasons stated above. Plus, as Javid said, not all grunts would want the Beretta over a Glock if they had to use a pistol, and the clips fitted for the Glocks are more common in Black Mesa, so using a Glock would be better than having to manually put 9mm bullets in a Beretta clip.

That’s my point though. The glock in real life is an ugly thing (for me anyway), so for BM to make it look sexy just proves how much effort went into it. The difference between the current pistol and the first one (seen here: https://www.catzeyes93.com/images/BlackMesa/images/25_glock_ingame.jpg) is incredible, and I’m not even entirely sure how or what the differences are.

Yeah, I remember, but firing the gun in the game is an entirely different experience.

Have you ever held/fired a glock in real life, Floyd? Unless you have, I’m not going to stand for you badmouthing such an efficient, cleanly designed weapon. Lack of bells and whistles can also be beautiful, you know.

I like how no one else can have a different opinion to yours. It makes these forums fun.

The police in my district, which is near L.A., are all issued Glocks, although I am unsure about the model. So maybe the po-po in my area are packing more heat than othere departments, or that it’s split down the middle.

Yeah, but the BM grunts are able to use pistols, which is mainly what we’re talking about here.

I never killed Barneys, I just felt so bad afterwards :frowning: Likewise with the scientists… But your suggestion is great, realism-wise and fun-wise!

I agree that it would be fun if the guards could at least push away the zombies in a melee attack, like Alyx. But not any harcore karate kicks and chops…

Glock 17, Beretta 92, and Smith and Wesson M&P are the three that I’ve seen. And Police used to use revolvers a lot.

I think the Police in my small town also use the Glock 17, I never got a real good look (I don’t want the cop to notice me standing 3 feet away staring at his weapon…). It’s a very common Law Enforcement weapon and a surprise the Military isn’t using them too.

The police where I live are issued the Baretta M92F.
But I personally prefer the Glock.

Really, you shouldn’t base a weapon simply on how it looks.
Example:

The AK-47 looks like something salvaged from a scrap heap compared to an M16, but I trust the AK a lot more in terms of stopping power and durability.

But I’m getting off topic.

I’d say the Glock more closely resembles the original HL pistol anyway, so I’d say keep it. Someone will probably do a reskin eventually anyway.

I always thought the hl pistol was a Glock.

It is; took me a bit to remember.

The HD packs change it to the Baretta.

It was:

I know this is off topic but the history channel did a comparison and during the accuracy portion they AK only hit a siloette style target 2 times in a 5 shot grouping while the M-16 hit the target every time. Also the M-16 series rifles haven’t had as much trouble with reliablility after the original M-16 and M-16 A1 models were phased out and soldiers told they needed to clean and at the very least lube them up. Also the reason the AK looks like it was salvaged from a “scrap heap” is because it is so crudely made.

Most police departments switched from revolvers to semi-auto’s in the 1990’s. Also it’s not just the glock 17 most departments that use the glock choose the .40 cal Glock 22 for more stopping power. Another popular pistol in law enforcement is the Sig Sauer P226.

I saw a comparison of the two at the Discovery Channel once, but I felt it was biased and they had already made up their minds, that AK-47 is rather a machine gun than a rifle because they failed to grasp the logic behind its safety/fire mode selector.

As far as I remember (it’s been years since I saw it) they tested the accuracy in full auto. This certainly proves that the M-16 has lover recoil, but why would you need to fire full auto on long distances anyway?

Since I haven’t actually used AK-47, I can’t say if it really is that inaccurate. But I have used RK-62 and I like the desing of AKs. It is really reliable and if made by quality parts very accurate.

I agree.

Christ, I knew I’d upset the gun nuts. Look, I really don’t care about how well the glock performs because I’m talking about the glock in Black Mesa, which is only aesthetics, hence why I’m only talking about how good it looks. The point is that, in my opinion, the Glock isn’t a very good-looking gun, and so for Black Mesa to actually make it look good, is testament to the sheer quality of the mod.

I like the Glock. It’s simple, reliable, and gets the job done.

Police and Federal Agencies all over the country use it. Which is why I’m surprised the Armed Forces chose the M9 over it.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
