Security guards

In the ending part in HL. The Gman takes you to several places, one of them is a destroyed marine outpost with tanks, aircraft, and dead marines.

What if the portal storms work both ways? Humans being randomly sent to Xen?

Really? I don’t remember that…I suppose it’s time for another run through.

Correct, but this was never specifically designated as Xen. I once heard that although it has a Xenian skybox, this is due to the GldSrc limitation of having only one skybox per level.

The fact that it’s in a desert environment suggests to me that it’s the remnants of the military taskforce killed by the Xen forces back on earth.

However because it’s in a G-Man sequence we can also say that it’s merely an illusion projected by the G-Man to disorient Gordon and make him susceptable to persuasion. The G-man speeches have a tendancy to be surreal and displaced. Take the Osprey ride at the end of Opposing Force; although it appears to be a regular aircraft the fact that it teleports to a Xenian landscape suggests that it is not.

Apparently in Half-Life: Source, where the technology did exist to have more than one skybox, it’s still the same. You’re not wrong about it being a G-Man hallucination though.

The technology existed to improve basically every aspect of Half Life 1 in the Source version, but the majority remained the same. I believe that is the main reason for the development of a certain HL2 mod…

Wow what a contribution.

It certainly rocked my world.

Referring far back to the main post, I think a melee attack for a security guard would be nice to see on occasion (Namely the Combine soldier’s push, or the door kick in the beginning of HL2)

Even if they aren’t a well trained security force, it doesn’t mean that none of them would have prior knowledge of how to fight.

As for weapons, it doesn’t make sense that the security stations would have more powerful weapons than the pistol, but one of the security guards would have them from the start, especially if they’re situated inside/near the station.

How about scripted sequence where you try to get in through a locked door, and a guard comes up from behind you, and says “Let me take care of that”, and kicks up the door.

Maybe, but most of the Black Mesa doors are sliding doors.

Sounds like something an opposing force engineer might say.

I’m almost positive someone’s going to get sucker-punched at some point during the mod.

Sweet, I just won a copy of Left 4 Dead!

So far I’ve found five PrizeRebel spams. See if you can find all twenty-eight before he gets banned and his posts are deleted!

I’ve found about 4 thus far.

Found too many… more than 4 anyway
More fun challenge: Guess how many reports will end up in the mods’ inboxes before they log in :stuck_out_tongue:

Edit: nevermind, delete this post.

My count’s up to 15.

I’ve seen at least 3 in all of the forum sections. Except the news section.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
