They tried shooting a .50 cal into water on Mythbusters and found that the bullets disintegrated almost instantly - much less than 3 feet, if I recall right. Strangely enough, sub-sonic bullets like pistol rounds were far more effective, penetrating much further and staying in once piece.
more force put, more resistance.
And vice versa.
I still think that this can’t be the steel core rounds what the US military uses. Most civilian bullets are a lead core surrounded in a copper jacket. The US military uses a steel core surrounded by a copper jacket. It’s not as soft as lead and tends to punch through targets alot better than lead. But if it was then nice spotting.
That makes sense.
I also saw this show some time ago here in Germany. I think it actually was a simple bullet from the shop around the corner. Most likely no military bullet.
There was a show on German television called “Galileo” that examined the behavior of bullets under water, and they used police ammunition. I think the police also uses bullets with a softer core, at least there is no need for them to use armor piercing ammunition. Anyway, in this show they fired a glock and a Walther PPK underwater, showing that the bullet made almost a 90° turn, got severely deformed and got no further than a couple of feet.
Why would a German show about shooting firearms underwater be named after an Italian astromonor from the Renaissance?
The show was not only about shooting guns under water. It’s a show similar to Mythbusters, named after Galileo because he stands for wisdom, intelligence, new ideas, new ways of thinking, even education. The show was really cool when it started, but has diminished recently. The quality can no longer compete with the great name that is abused for it.
The show was once about uncovering mysteries, revealing secrets, doing interesting experiments. Now it’s more like: “How much TNT do we need to crack open a vault?” or “frying the largest burger in the world!”. Just sometimes something interesting like this firearm demonstration comes up - the show actually was about busting Hollywood myths. Like if it is possible getting shot under water.
You shall burn in hell for desecrating the Mythbusters!
Calm down. The show doesn’t even pretend to be as cool as Mythbusters. I just pointed out the similarity so you guys could imagine it easier. Nothing beats Jamie and Adam!
He was joking. Bees and knickers man, bees and knickers.
It was mentioned on the show, that they used armor piercing rounds. They might not have used the steel core rounds military uses, but I doubt it was your average lead core rounds they used. Unless of course the Mythbusters lied on the ammunition they used. :fffuuu:
No way! :o
Really do need a guard blasting shit with a .357 whilst smoking a cigarette in this game.
Yeah, there ‘has’ to be some badass guards in there… You actually get the .357 from a dead guard, under the tentacles.
There is no such thing as a badass guard, as any rambo would just join the military. There should only be Otis’s in Black Mesa, and no Barneys, if the devs are going for realism. If Barney was real, he would look like this:
I’m actually doing both… I’m doing infantry as my military occupational specialty and I am in training to become an armed guard at a nuclear power plant for my civilian job. I don’t claim to be badass…but I get the feeling I know more about the weapons I’m being trained on than the senior instructor.
It’s different if you have past experience. Just listen to what some of the BM guards have to say. They are totally rent-a-cops.
I’ve actually considered getting a job as a guard, if only because it sounds like a real do-nothing job, and it could work nicely with my insomnia. (As well as showing up at friends houses and asking “did somebody order a stripper?”)
I consider Barney to be a badass guard. At least he was when I played him, no kiddin!
Otis was pretty badass, too - with his Desert Eagle and all.
In the translations section I have suggested some additional lines for security guards to say when they pick up new weapons or take down critters. 'Cause I’d like to have some of them gain some coolness.
You are thinking of Otis.
No, he would look like this:
