Security guards

But also incredibly stupid.

“Hello soldier sir!”

Touches clearly electrified fence in an attempt to open the door.

“Agghhh!”

Being bad-ass because of the type of gun you’re holding. Brilliant.

Maybe he is talking about the gun,not the person.

Yeah but seriously, gotta have one with a .357.

I’d consider anyone with a Deagle badass - seems to me that would be much healthier than considering him an idiot with a gun.

However - aren’t security guards in a secret military science facility of the US government at least likely to be retired soldiers or veterans that have got the job through personal connections? Not all of them by far, but at least some of them, I would think. So I could very well imagine most of them being well trained and proficient in the use and handling of several types of guns. There might even be some of them taking their own gun to work instead of relying on the sidearm they are provided. Like the guy with the revolver in Half-Life 1.

Been replaying HL1 lately, and there are actually 2 (so far; @ On a rail) guards with magnums… one is dead below the tentacles, the other in front of the rail control thing, with the Garg in Power Up. That one is dying though… Seems guards with magnums just can’t stay alive :frowning:

Having only 6 rounds in the drum and taking long time to reload DOES increase the risk of getting killed.

Ok first off anyone who rocks a deagle for security job is over compensating for something. Also Otis was about as intelligent as the coachroaches. Just cause someone has a gun doesn’t make them bad ass. There are alot of pussies out there who get guns and all of a sudden they think they are a tough guy. They usually get guns that are way too powerful or look really cool to over compensate for their being a pussy. Having said that you have to have pretty strong arms to rock a real deagle(one that fires the .50AE round). Although Otis had one that was a .357 which, while being a nice sized round, is nothing in terms of recoil compared to a .50 AE.

That chick inherited badassery from her husband when she got his gun. if that counts.

Are you guys comparing Otis to an anorexic chick with barely enough skin on her bones? Just curious…

Are you saying Agent Smith has issues with his masculinity?

He IS a computer, after all.

To be fair, when you’re super-fast, inhumanly strong and neigh indestructible and you’re chasing down adversaries that are almost as fast, strong and have a habit of legging it as soon as look at you, I don’t think you’d be overcompensating for anything.

But yeah, a Desert Eagle isn’t exactly ideally suited for a security guard. For starters they look like they weigh half a ton and I imagine they’re not the best pisol to have in a quick draw situation.

How to give barney a 357:

  1. Get a barney model with a 357
  2. Replace sound/barney/ba_attack2.wav with a 357 shot of the same name.
  3. Replace the following code:
    sk_9mm_bullet1 “5”
    sk_9mm_bullet2 “5”
    sk_9mm_bullet3 “8”
    With this:
    sk_9mm_bullet1 “40”
    sk_9mm_bullet2 “40”
    sk_9mm_bullet3 “40”
in valve/skill.cfg by opening it with notepad.
  4. Play HL
  5. Shoot barney once with a 9mmhandgun
  6. Enjoy.

I just realized when waking up that all the Otis’s (Besides Laurie, the bald one) Probably picked up their deagles from dead soldiers.
Correct me if I’m wrong, since I don’t own opposing force, but aren’t the first two in areas where they would have acess to dead soliders and be able to take their more powerful sidearms?
And who knows where the others have been before Shephard finds them. Otis Laurie had a deagle in the begining of Blue Shift however, so he probably owns one.

Of course, no security guards in BM should have Deagles, because they weren’t in HL or Blue shift, with the exeption of Otis L.

Especially since you have to reload after 7 rounds. Although the .45 1911 was loved by the soldiers who used it even though it had only 7 rounds. I personally don’t like reloading in the middle of a fire fight if I can help it. Ideally it’s good to have a firearm that has enough power to drop a man and enough rounds in the mag to effectively lay down cover fire if need be.

Yeah we know we are just arguing with someone who thinks Otis is a badass just because he packed a desert eagle.

No, what I meant was he was the only guard who had a deagle in a game besides Op4, he had one at the beggining of BS, although it was probably due to gearbox being lazy.
And why would I think a bald, fat man who lives with his mother is badass? :fffuuu:

You are not the guy I was talking about.
