Save the forum

I’m afraid that every thread in the forum is starting to look like this:

<2 replies on topic>

Now I don’t want to bitch and I’m a patient guy, but can’t the devs look for a PR guy or something. Because really, what’s stated on the homepage of the website:

Updates via twitter
follow us for [COLOR=‘Red’]recent updates.
old school like the old school.

That’s just a bit ridiculous don’t you think. I really don’t care about a date, but save the forum pls.

There’s no hope for the forum, really.

This forum was way beyond saving a long time ago.

You fairly big homossexual, read the FAQ! Are you a mental patient of sorts or something of the same likeliness?

Seriously, read the FAQ. Or the WIKI. In fact, read anything that is in all caps. All caps means it’s serious. Like the Internet.

THE INTERNET*

you said all caps

Someone must have posted our link somewhere and we are getting an influx of new posters that dont lurk and dont read the faq. Still, I implore our regulars to please play nice.

It’s just a bunch of kids… most who found out about the mod 1-2 years ago… What can you expect but nonsense…as you can tell by past 4 posts… Sure you can tell everyone to check out the Wiki… but you’d think people would actually update their own website before updating the free one.

Minus catzeyes… posted while i was typing

Oh, look at Mr. PartyPooper over here accusing of being under-aged.

Everything there was to discuss about the mod has already been discussed several times. Having said that, if you don’t want to join the “shits and giggles” by the regulars (some of which I’m sure are responsible adults) that the informational blackout results in (while we all wait - some more patiently than others), that’s entirely your problem.

I wasn’t accusing anything… most of the people on here are like 18 and under…

how would you know?

although i figured most of the people getting banned were under 18. cuz really, what 20 something would waste their time trolling on forums?..forget i ever asked that

I’M INSANE WITH RAGE!

I’ve asked for this in a couple of threads, although I can’t expect the devs to see it considering how quickly the threads develop new pages.

But I certainly reckon that a lot of the long-term lurkers like me feel this way (going on the 1 member and 5 guests viewing this thread). Plus, at the time of editing, there were 15 replies and 543 views of the thread. Praise be to the lurkers! I’ve largely given up on the forums for the same reason as the OP and then the flaming of the troll, with all the forumites saying “read the FAQ”. What’s the point in reading the FAQ when there’s nothing new in it?

People want updates, some acknowledgement of what’s happening, even if it was just a weekly update on twitter saying “working through some annoying bugs” or “optimizing certain areas”. I understand that the devs don’t want to give out too much information in case people say “this means it will be done in 3 weeks”, but anything is better than nothing. It’s neary 2/3rds of a year since the twitter account was updated. By leaving it up on the main page, you’re basically insulting all of the people who regularly check for updates!

whats the point of asking the devs when they give you the same answer? There’s a reason nothing new is in the FAQ, because there is no new information that they want to give.

I really dont see how devs answering your questions and responding to your queries isn’t enough for you people. It shows that they’re active and still working on schedule. But everyone making new threads asking the same question isn’t doing anyone any good

What if there are no updates because nothing is happening? Think about who is making the mod (mainly college students with game design/art majors and a few industry players). School just started, so the students are busy with their education, and the end of summer/fall is the busiest time of year for game production.

Like I’ve posted in a few different threads, I would expect another update around Spring Break and I expect the game to be finished late Summer 2011.

I’m not asking for more information, I don’t really care about when the mod is released even, I’m very much in the “release it when it’s done” group. All that I ask, as with the original post, is for more updates on the progress of the mod, even if it is deliberately vague to prevent speculation over release dates. This isn’t the same question as has been posted in other threads (which are mainly “relees date plz”), and it hasn’t been answered before, probably due to it being submerged in the ‘Enquiries about the mod’ type threads.

I don’t understand what you’re getting at, Glottis. You say there’s no new information that they want to give, which is probably true, but then you say that the devs answering questions should be enough to show that they’re on schedule. Can you re-phrase that for me, 'cause you seem like you’re trying to make a good point but it seems contradictory the way that you’ve worded it.

^mattemuse: That sounds a lot like the BM iz ded trolls… :stuck_out_tongue: jokes, you’ve got a good point about the occupations, but I’d disagree about the dates, it might be different here in the UK to the USA and Australia (where most of the devs seem to be), but January and May are the busiest periods at colleges in the UK, as that’s when exams are. However, the release date prediction sounds about right.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
