[Rumorville] Joss Whedon may direct possible HL movie?

Yeah, but silent films weren’t without dialogue, it just had to be written instead of spoken. If you’ve ever seen a truly silent movie/video, one with very little or no dialogue (such as the Triplets of Belleville), you quickly see how surreal an atmosphere it creates. However, that effect comes from the fact that nobody speaks, so I’m not really sure what would happen if only one character was silent, but I suspect it might be kind of awkward. I haven’t seen Samurai Jack so correct me if I’m wrong, if it does work out ok.

As for a movie, I don’t really care if they make one or not as long as it isn’t badly made. If they don’t make one, nothing changes. If they do, Valve won’t let it suck. So I’m not really worried.

Valve should create the movie themselves using the same Machinima techniques they used for the TF2 videos.

making a movie with gordon in it would be too comical no matter if he speaks or not. but a silent film would be catastrophic… what’s wrong with you guys?

The only idea that could work would have to be as mysterious as the whole game. So, I would totally like to see anything explaining Black Mesa Research Facility itself, it’s history, and other parts of the complex. I would also add G-Man somewhere and connect ‘movie’ plots with original game plots. The movie shouldn’t include Freeman. The fact we can’t even see him in the game says for itself, it should stay that way.

But hey, lets face the truth - that could turn into anotther boring Hollywood shit. Another secret project & alien shooting. We’ve seen that many times already and most of them were crap.

I know, that most of you guys know valve well enough to even think that a hl movie would even exist. Especially since how the game is set up anyways, to make YOU experience the universe. Anyways interesting thread, but a half-life movie, even a side story movie, has a 0% chance of seeing light.

Thank God for that.

Are you stupid? :frowning:

Gabe Newell stated by himself, that there will be no Half Life movie just because of the famous name!

Also, many writers already sent ideas to Valve how to make a Half Life movie. Since 1999. But he said: “They all sucked”.

I think Joss Whedon would do a Half-life Movie justice.
if the man can make Paul Rubens NOT look like 1987’s version of pedobear, the man can do anything.

I like the idea of a side story of some sort as mentioned. And Joss might be able to do it justice, I’d say he’d be one of the few that could.

I’m already making that LOL…so that would piss me off.

I sent Gabe Newell an email a little while back, and according to him, they are still looking into making a Half-Life movie. However, instead of relying on Hollywood to write a script, (they’ve already gotten couple bad scripts from Hollywood) they are “teaching themselves how to write a linear narrative” he said that their attempts can be seen the TF2 shorts, L4D intro (this was before L4D2), and maybe something else, I can’t quite remember atm. But Gabe is pretty adament that they aren’t going to do anything that would potentially ruin their brand.

edit:

Where did he say that? I haven’t heard that anywhere, and the email I got from him seemed to imply just the opposite, that they haven’t completely given up on a Half-Life movie.

Movie of the 7 hour war.

srs.

as long as Gabe and the boys are behind it, there’s not much i can complain about. Unless it’s shit

A Half-Life movie would be good for marketing, that’s probably what Hollywood is thinking with their shitty scripts. Good thing Valve isn’t that kind of studio, unlike 99% out there who will sell their rights the minute big shot studios offer them money.

Sorry but this sentence is really confusing. Do you mean that since Half-Life already has an established fanbase, Hollywood thinks they can get away with half-assing the script since they know Half-Life fans will see it no matter what?

Yes, I think we can all agree that if Valve ever allowed a movie to be made, they would make sure it was up to their standards of quality. So there’s really no need for worrying - if one ever comes out it will be kickass.

(insert kinky comment here - I am no longer allowed to)

I’d like to see the movie based on the HECU’s experiences in Black Mesa and/or the Seven Hour War.

Oh wait, it’s fake, nevermind.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
