Renegade X

A remake of Renegade by a mod team.

I am a big fan of Renegade, which was very underrated. It had a very unique multiplayer experience: C&C in a FPS perspective. Basically, you have your own base and harvester which you need yo protect while trying to destroy the other team’s base.

That looks fantastic and I’m surprised EA hasn’t shut it down.

Fucking finally

I loved C&C renegade, and have been waiting for this for a long time, it’ll be nice to see something new for C&C that doesn’t suck

note that the release date is February 2014

Considering this was the only Command and Conquer game I ever played, yeah I am interested.

Trailer looks amazing. It looks like a lot of fun honestly. Interested indeed.

Very impressive. Gotta give em a lot of props for making it look so good.

That the release date is February 2014…

THE BETA IS OUT

It’s quite fun, and surprisingly it manages to capture the feeling of classic C&C compared to EA’s titles

Been playing it. Vehicle cap is total BS

The vehicle cap number is set by server hosts, and it’s to prevent spamming them on large servers where a bunch of them would cause buildings to go down in 2 seconds.

They could turn it off but I doubt most servers will.

Yeah, but the matches go on for way to long without a decent amount of vehicles. I think I saw you playing last night

Great mod and had a blast yesterday

And original renegade had a vehicle cap too, it was just always 10 or something like that. I just hope that they remove or lower airstrike’s damage. They could wipe 5 mammoth tanks in seconds…

I actually like the airstrikes, they are an excellent counter for when you loose your vehicle plant and are getting bombarded by the enemy team (or in back-and-fourth stalemates at chokepoints), but they take some time to paint the target and the laser is visible so if your team spots it you can at least avoid it in time.

I hope they add a couple more avenues for comebacks, as it can be pretty hard to win after you loose some key structures if you don’t have an organized team. Though looking on the website, they are going to add more types of tech structures to be captured throughout the maps so that might help a lot.

Man, I would really love it if Blizzard would make something like renegade but for Starcraft - though that would never happen.

No, it had unlimited vehicles, I played it recently

I like the handheld ion cannon

Also to my surprise, skirmishes are actually quite fun. Sure there are AI hiccups here and there, but the AI is actually quite competent at playing the game mode and you can order troops to follow you around - and also add bots and have 64 bot matches too alone or with some friends.

Then you have a modified EXE, or you are playing on a server that has removed the limit. Try to buy tanks in default Renegade skirmish mode, and it will say “Limit Reached” very soon.

^ yeah there was a cap.

Westwood was shut down by EA literally almost right after they started working on patches for renegade, but they helped the community set up their own shit, and the community-run servers are what removed the limit.

Also you can’t even play renegade online now without the fan stuff, you pretty much need them.

That’s probably the reason why there are no players in original Renegade. Good thing there’s no need for Gamespy Arcade or something similar… That may keep servers alive for awhile.

About airstrikes: Well they could just make it so it kills all infantry (engineers), and do 1/3 of damage to tanks. Right now it’s WAY too powerful.

I think they should increase the painting time.

Without them to counter vehicles, if you loose your vehicle factory on a map with full base defenses you’ve basically lost the game
