So, I’ve grown tired of all the games I’ve been playing and decided to play a few good Half-Life/Half-Life 2 mods. Problem is, I can’t find any good ones and hoped some of you could help me find a few enjoyable mods. Thank you.

That’s definitely worth looking into.
There is also Zombie Panic: Source, Age of Chivalry, and Garry’s mod.

Bear in mind that a lot of older HL2 mods were broken by a Steam update a year or two back; to get them working, you can consult this thread over on Steampowered and try some of the fixes they have listed.

Nightmare House 2, greatest mod ive ever played, scariest too, great game, incredibly low replayability though, unless you get your friends to play it like i did, funniest shit ever. oh and garrys mod is well worth 10 bucks if you havent gotten it. SMOD is good too, its half life 2 but with some crazy shit added in, fun to fuck around with, especially with cheats.
DMCS is a pretty cool multiplayer mod that’s probably gonna have another beta release soon.
The vast majority of mods suck. Even the best of them are only ‘ok’ games that you pretty much forget about shortly after playing. The Stanley Parable is probably the only one from the past few years that I liked & it didn’t really even have any combat or puzzles, it was just a short & quirky narrative thing. Better than Dear Esther in my opinion, even if it is a lot shorter.

Insurgency- you can download it straight off Steam although I don’t know how big the player base is any more.
1187 is fun, and one of the guys who worked on it is also making The Mortewood Plaza on his own. It’s not out yet but it’s looking good.

Pirates Vikings & Knights II is really something unique. You should definately try it.

My favoriate HL2 mod, to date, is Minerva.
Nightmare house was brilliant. and also I like insurgency. it perfectly captures the blurry inclarity of a real combat situation.
