Quick Question of a GFX card

I have a GeForce 8500 GT. It’s a pile of crap when it comes to gaming. There are 2 possible video cards that I want: GeForce 9800 GT and the GeFoece 295 GTX. I want to replace my 8500 with the 9800 or the 295. But there are some concerns that I worry about:

  1. I don’t wanna fuck up my PC
  2. I’m not sure if the 9800 or the 295 would work on my PC as it was built. (Doesn’t fit, Too big)
  3. I want better FPS than I have right now (I get very bad FPS while playing TF2 and L4D, but at least 30 when playing CSS)
4 (Optional) I want it to play Crysis on its highest settings!

So my questions are, which of the 2 replacements is more well suited for gaming? and which one will work on my PC?

The 295 is unbelievably superior in comparison to the 9800 GT.

It’s also incredibly expensive, though. And is much, much larger.

I myself use the 9800 GT in my computer and it gets the job done with most of the games I play, but if you want to go all out, I’d say the 295. On the other hand, though, we can’t just say “The 295 will work in your computer.” completely out of our asses. We don’t know what your case size is, motherboard, etc. We can’t telepathically know whether or not it’ll fit unless you tell us about your computer.

Get a Radeon 5770 or higher instead of getting confused with nvidia’s cards.

Get a 5770 or a 5850 if ur on a budget.

best buy has nvidia gtx 275’s for $220.00…
pretty good deal…

Best Buy overcharges everything. They had a 4670 for $150.

It seems like i have to get ANOTHER computer cause i don’t know shit about my motherboard.

You could open your computer and look to see what it says.

Its easy to take a look at it. pcityourself.com

You could run DXDIAG (click on start, then run, and type dxdiag in the text box) and get some good info there.

It would help to have the CPU and RAM info, and the OS version.

I currently run dual 8800GTs in SLI, but a 295 would probably blow my SLI setup out of the water. Also, nVidia is coming out with the 400 series, so the rest of the cards should be coming down in price soon…

The 5870 is only marginally out preformed by the GTX480 and its $100 less than the GTX480. The 5970 blows anything away.

CPU: AMD Phenom 9500 quad-core
RAM: 3GB
OS: Vista Home Premium 32 Bit

Those aren’t bad. They should last you a couple more years.

You might want to check out reviews at Tom’s Hardware, https://www.tomshardware.com Sharky Extreme, (https://www.sharkyextreme.com and AnandTech (https://www.anandtech.com for reviews and benchmarks. I personally like nVidia, because I had driver issues with ATI, but that’s just me. I also like eVGA equipment (https://www.evga.com), because they make very good (although a bit more pricy) equipment with good warranties. Again, someone else might suggest something different, just keep in mind that everyone has their opinion.

Have fun with the new card when you get it!

yeah your GPU sucks but the 9800GT won’t put you that much ahead, it’s the same chip as the 8800GT, which I have. And I only have it cuz I’m broke, otherwise I’d be rockin an HD5770 right now.

Also get 4gigs of ram 3gb is a weird number (unless its triple channel then get yourself 6 gigs)

Damn that’s what I call an up-to-date computer.

The only way to beat that would be to add more gtx 480 cards haha

Are you a reviewer ( like press ), or just an nvidia shill?

Well if you seriously need to go budget, a G210 or 220 wouldn’t be too bad. The 210 only costs $50 and runs decent. I can play l4d2 on med-high, and most other games. Crysis is playable, if a bit laggy at some parts. (Just beat it last night) Although I’d recommend the 220 over the 210 any day. But they definitely aren’t gaming cards, just cheap.

If you’re referring to the NVidia GT 210 and 220, all they are are rebrands of the low-end 9-series cards.
