It is Siege of Avalon indeed. It does have a lot of flaws like moronic A.I. and gameplay issues, but it’s still one of the best RPGs of its time and it has a great story.

For some reason playing with the Ballistic mod makes the game feel a lot more like UT99, probably because I’m going out of my way to only play with the weapons that have UT-esque functionality, and because the pickups are on the ground instead of floating.
Actually it’s probably because UT99 had nice animations and actual fucking hands, something they never made in 2K3/4, and to top that off in the vanilla weapons sound fairly weak and have very basic animations.
Probably one of the main reasons I used to always stick to UT99, I mean look at the minigun as a prime example. In UT99 it’s loud, it shakes violently and the hand position makes it look like your guy is really trying to stabilize it. In 2k4 it spins one way, oh and a small gear spins the other way.
They don’t have an M16 with a scope on it, but the 50. cal replacement is fairly similar in feeling to the UT99 sniper

This remake of lava giant even has that weird animated glowing stuff in the sky, something almost nobody notices in UT99 because they never look straight up.

Also I did a lot of digging and discovered a nice UT99 skaarj hybrid remodel pack for 2k4, and got a UT99 voice pack for it too

And I didn’t even fucking know this, but UT2003 had shipped with a lava giant remake - it was one of the few maps that didn’t make it into 2k4 because of collision issues.
While I prefer the more classic fan remake, this one certainly has a nice 3D backdrop, and it’s actually in the map which is always cool.
Comes with the music too which is nice.

This guy was firing shots (including with his drones) almost every second. There was no way I could protect against all that. I was already at half health when I met him too. I almost got to the 8th sector too…

I wish I had an infinite amount of these wingblades. They’re so fun to use. I actually threw one once and it got stuck in some bandit’s face and he ran into a wall and died.
