Post your Screenshot!

Something I hope Valve works on in their new engine is volumetric clouds. When there are clouds or steam or something that should be volumetric, such as smoke after an explosion, you can see the polygons of the “cloud” creating harsh lines against the polygons of the environment. I’m seeing that in your second pic, Dist.

^ Those sound very expensive to render. But even so I’m pretty sure smoke grenades since Call of Duty 2 have been doing something similar because IW devs were tired of seeing “smoke clip through walls.”

GT4

Yeah, I thought someone would have pointed that out. There’s not too much I can do about that, Source is good, but it’s not perfect yet.

you don’t need volumetric particles for that, just soft-particles, which are available in source afaik.(I actually used that)
It’s pretty simple to render, you just need some depth-map trickery

That sounds rather useful, but it sounds like it may be a bit intensive to pull off, as I run a pretty poor machine.

The soft particle system is used for the blood, fire, and other effects in source. If you can handle those, I don’t think that it would be that hard to handle.

MP3 has the best blood.

Grafix

I noticed when playing that when Max reloads the revolver that you can actually each of the cartridges fall out. So cool.

And I just really like this one :3 .

BLOOOOOOOM

Your glasses are foggy, samzala

Deus Ex with New Vision mod, which adds high resolution textures to all levels.

inb4 someone reinstalls Deus Ex.

high res but uber low poly

Such is the nature of texture packs for old games.

High res texture packs are great things…up to a point. I think deus ex is just a bit beyond that point personally.

I usually don’t care about high res texture packs for old games, specially because the authors usually put way too much detail and resolution into them, and often times will change the design a bit too much from the original.

However I find that this particular pack strikes a very good balance between high detail and preservation of the original textures’ design. It doesn’t go overboard like many other packs and keeps it loyal to the source origin.

Now if only the project to improve the quality of models didn’t die so soon in the beach…

Low poly high textures actually looks pretty good if done right. See Max Payne 2. It looks better I would say that high poly but really low quality textures. I actually just started FEAR Perseus Mandate and saw this brick texture, looks pretty good.

And a few more

Man, what I would give for a modern FEAR that felt gameplay-wise similar to the first one and its expansions.

the expansions stink though…

Maybe story wise, though I don’t really have a problem with them. They all have the same feel when playing them though.

perseus mandate is notorious for terrible level design too, apparently. I didn’t play it because of the shocking reviews it got across the board
