I’ve never found any good situation to use mines in fallout 3 and/or Fallout: NV. I always end up putting them all in a pile when I’m getting overencumbered, luring an unsuspecting victim into them or just blowing them up with a well placed bullet.
I also sometimes use them as makeshift grenades, throwing them straight on top of an enemy and quickly move away.
