Oh and btw I got the hacker issue resolved so I will be adding all u guys back to my friends list
Some guys just want the best. I got what I wanted but I don’t think extreme edition CPUs are worth the money, Sure they’re made from the most pure silicon Intel can manufacture therefore can overclock to higher frequencies but is it worth an extra £500 [UK Sterling] hell no. A 920 D0 stepping I7 can reach 4Ghz on good air cooling quite easily.
Thing is there is no game on gods earth that “needs” an overclocked Core I7. The 2.66Ghz will run Crysis on all Ultra settings with 4/8 AA 16AF without bottlenecking the GPU if its a high end GPU that is.
There is no need for 12GB of ram neither. I find Windows 7 home premium I have the RTA Version uses around 1.5GB just mucking around the net and gaming just doesnt use the extra 4.5GB that i have.
Quad SLI is great if you have the cash although you should know that only a very small percentage of games will take advantage of SLI cards.
But of course if non of what Ive wrote applies and money is no object, why the hell not buy what you want.
On the flipside to that coin, Can you be sure that people who write system specs are actually telling the truth? And even if they post some pictures maybe from 3D Mark or CPU-Z and GPU-Z are they from theyre own desktop?
Very true.
Quad SLI seems rather useless. I think you only get about a 20% performance boost with 2 295GTX.
Because most games just aren’t made to work on 4 GPU’s.
If you compare an 4870 with an 4870x2, you’ll notice that it doesn’t perform twice as good. Which it should. After all it’s two 4870’s in one card. But it doesn’t because the games aren’t optimalised for dual or quad GPU’s.
And I agree that an Intel Core Extreme is also not worth the money.
Sure it’ll give you 5 fps more in Crysis. But that’s not worth 700 more dollars than a 920. Whitch by the way comes dangerously close to the extreme when overclocked. For 50 dollars you can get a cooler that’s good enough to cool the 920 enough to overclock it to 3,8, 4, or even more if you really know what you’re doing. (Mine’s running at 3,8, and I’m a total noob at overclocking)
It’s just a fact that the CPU’s have always run ahead of the GPU’s.
Currently, a normal i7 920 is enough to run any game on max without bottlenecking the GPU, as you said.
But it’s the GPU’s that are left behind. My FPS in Crysis, on high (Can’t do very high, ain’t got Vista. Warhead can play on very high without DX10 and it seems to run on a similair fps as high. Maybe a 1 or 2 less.) with 4AA sometimes still drop below 30 with my 4870x2 and an i7 and 4 gigs of 1600mhz ram. (Now it is true that Nvidia cards perform better in Crysis for some reason. Wouldn’t be surprised if they purposfully didn’t optimalise it for ATI cards because they’re sponsored by Nvidia. Maybe they were offered a big sum of money for it. Shit like that happens.)
And remember, Crysis is from 2007 for Christ’s sake! And they said they’d improve performance with Warhead. I read in the IGN article that they ran it on very high with AA on an 9800gt. BULL. SHIT. Does that guy live in a fantasy world with a fantasy version of Warhead? I’ve seen benchmarks, and I’ve seen it one my own pc, it doesn’t perform the slightest bit better than the original. Load of bullocks.
And it remains the fact that this is to blaim on the GPU. And of course also those bastards at EA, who aren’t giving Crytek enough time to work their magic.
Ive been looking at reviews for the HD 4870 X2 Vs a GTX 295. It seems the 295 beats the X2 in most scenarios but I have to point out that the 4879 X2 is going for about £243 Inc VAT right now but the GTX 295 is going for around £330 Inc vat. Thats an extra £87 to get a GTX 295. Prices are from https://www.scan.co.uk
The 295 only pushes out maybe between 5-10 FPS more and for me thats not worth the extra £87.
I find it odd that ATI offer there pretty much flagship ultra high end card for less than £250 yet Nvidias flagship is going for £330+
Can I just say, my graphics card is a step below running GTAIV on full graphics (My powersupply keeps it at 10FPS though) if you have 450watt PSU, the ATI 3850HD will do what you want.
(My card is a 3850, but techspecs say 3800, wtf is up with that?)
Xilef, I would agree with Kaze with that you really are in need of a much more powerful power supply. I can garantee you that your not feeding your GPU enough power. Id bet that a 600W upwards and youll see a improvement in FPS and overall performance.
With that said, Dont go buying any PSU simply because if you read custom PC mag https://www.custompc.co.uk/ you see that even great brands fail big time at rated power.
I just fixed up an old laptop that I got for free, it had a lost all windows files.
Specs are
1.7 ghz processor
768mb ram
160gb HDD
128mb ATI Radeon Xpress 200M
I have it running on Ubuntu 9.04 because it won’t load up the recovery disc and my dad never bought full installs for windows only upgrades he has done this since DOS.
I know my CPU is the hardcore bottleneck, I’m upgrading things slowly, and mobo and processor is next.
Pentium 4, 3.8 ghz
GeForce 285 2gb
4 Gb of RAM
160 gb HDD
300 GB HDD
1.5 TB HDD
I forget what my PSU is, I think it’s 800 watts or something, my mobo is some old thing that can’t handle anything more then a Pentium 4. I have a pretty fancy case with 4 led fans, except only 2 are plugged in because the other two are loud as hell.
My old computer’s AGP motherboard started to die out months ago, so I decided to get the latest generation specs so I don’t have to worry about performance for quite awhile. I’ve gotten a lot of RAM because I create movies through Adobe and have a lot of programs up at once while making movies, so I need good performance to ensure the best quality out of my videos. CPU is also important for this, especially when encoding the videos. Video cards are self-explanatory. Got to have a good amount of FPS to even record footage, right?
Hey man yeah your too right with the specs needed for what your doing. There was absolutely zero offence meant by what I said. I myself upgraded from my AGP rig 3 weeks ago ish and the difference is amazing.
You really should go get windows 7, I ahve the home premium RTM and its fantastic…Its like Vista but it WORKS and its far far far better in general.
