POrtal 2 OST

Valve gives the first volume (I think there will be 3) with 22 songs for free on their site:

Epic Soundtrack

Fucking awesome.

Iā€™m now listening to it. Canā€™t wait for the other Volumes, I thought that Portal 2 was probably the first Valve game to seem to have music playing at all times.
I dislike going back to earlier games to find sections where absolutely no music is playing, creating a dull environment. This is one of the major reasons why I love Portal 2.

PS: This music will help replaying Half Life bearable. That music problem is really prevalent
in it, and I had to resort to replaying the same playlist again and again because of it.
Now I have new Valve music to keep me company.

PPS: One of the understated features of Black Mesa in my mind is the soundtrack. If they can pull off dynamic music, than Black Mesa will forever replace Half Life for me.

Left 4 Dead 2 had music almost constantly playing. I canā€™t vouch for L4D1, because Iā€™ve never played it.

I love Science Is Fun.

The P2 soundtrack is awesome, but I wish they had more of the ambient soundscapes from P1ā€™s sound track.

edit: Holy crap, listen to Ghost of Rattman, I didnā€™t notice this in game, but you can hear lots of crazy little noises which I assume is supposed to be Rattman rambling to himself. Itā€™s kind of creepy.

Friendly Faith Plate is so fucking cool.

^^^
I bet it sounds awesome on a huge sound system.

You can hear it in game. Itā€™s in the den with all the coffee mugs and the huge fan. The muttering is really quiet, but you can hear it.

^this!!!

Waitā€¦ Fuck.

This is valve releasing stuff in chunks again.

Prepare for the 9 year wait for Volume 2. :stuck_out_tongue:

I got all the OST songs myself a while ago, and while this is nice, seriously, no ā€˜Want You Goneā€™? That is just inexcusable.

Well, itā€™s probably coming in Volume 2 or 3ā€¦

I guess you donā€™t know what Volume 1 means :hmph:

9 years in Valve-Time or RL?

Are these in the game files? Iā€™m just wondering because I have gfcscapeā€™d every single .gfc file in my game/steam directories when I tried to find some turret sounds to use as my windows sounds. I didnā€™t find more than it already was in the gameā€™s and sdkā€™s folders. Is gfcscape outdated for this kind of source or is the base files limited from us?

some of the tracks like The Courtesy Call arenā€™t in the files separate, The Courtesy Call and Moon Shot are mixed in with dialogue in the sound files, and a few others like The Friendly Faith Plate, I Saw a Deer Today, and Concentration Enhancing Menu Initializer are incomplete or missing from the files. Itā€™s better to just download the soundtrack from the website.

Ok, but how do I find the source files? Like the models nā€™ shit?

You download the Portal 2 authoring tools. Like everyone else.

What now?

Edit:

How do I open a Valve PaK file?

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valveā€™s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
