Am I the only one who hated it? I thought it was retarded. You go outside, THE END! WTF!! So now whats Portal 3 gonna be like?! Walking around that giant meadow forever?!? I expected SOME SORT of tie into the Half-Life story! Maybe meeting one of the main charactors from Half-Life. Or maybe perhaps at the end you go outside and your in City 17. But NO! The only thing Half-Life related to this game, were the words “Black Mesa.” And they were only said once! What a waste of time that game was :meh:

Some people may say that the point of a game is the game play. But not for me! I play a game because of its story. If dont like the story, I dont like the game.

Can someone please tell me if there is an alternate ending, because I refuse to believe that, that is the only ending.

You’ve been in suspension for a long time, how would you see anything from HL? The voice says, you’ve been in suspension for 999999 days or something. It’s a lighthearted game that you’re not supposed to take seriously. Maybe there won’t be a Portal 3, or VALVe will try to innovate, and do something entirely different with it. Like I said, Portal isn’t meant to be taken seriously. Don’t go into one of those games expecting a serious reveal for the Half-Life story.

It was never going to reveal much (if anything at all) about the half life story. I mean in the beginning it does say about an apocalyptic event…that could mean the combine or something else, who knows.
It does have where the borealis disappeared from in the game and it does have a reference to Black Mesa. The original Portal never had that much Half-Life stuff in it so why should the second?
I think what we can assume is that the combine ultimately failed in their plans otherwise earth would be toxic and a lot more hostile. It is not known if Xenians are still there or not but it looks like earth’s wildlife has returned to normal (assumption). Portal is a side game, it’s set in the Half Life universe but is not a Half Life game thus there will not be a great deal of Half Life references in it.

Edit: @Patrick- there was something else related to half-life by the way other than Black Mesa references, but it was very small- I’ll let you find out what it is.

What I wanted to know was, how did all those different types of plants grow down there if Aperture was built underneath a huge wheat crop? I did like the idea that the entrance was inconspicuously hidden in a rusty old shed though.

One thing I was disappointed about was how the overgrown and abandoned chambers were only really seen for the first few chapters of the game, then after that they just disappeared. All that lovely foliage that Valve made and how it was touted as being part of the major art direction for the game and its only used for the first few hours. I guess that GlaDOS was rebuilding alot of the facility as you go, but since you get to see how impossibly huge the place is she would’ve only rebuilt some small sections of it. There were too many pristine and un ruined chambers and not enough abandoned gritty chambers is what I’m getting at here.

At the end of the day though, only a small amount of gamers would care/notice this though so valve probably didn’t see the point in such aesthetics when such a small portion of the audience would notice

I honestly have no idea what that post even meant. And no, there’s no separate ending. It’s just 1 ending with multiple cutscenes so I suppose people who haven’t beat the SP think there may be more than one ending because of the leaks.
