Portal 2 authoring tools question

I am asking a lot of questions lately…hope it isn’t annoying.

For an architecture project I was hoping to create a level/model via Hammer editor, and the new effects seen in Portal 2 (i.e. lighting, reflections) are gorgeous. Problem is I don’t own that game. Has the traditional Hammer editor been updated to be able to incorporate these visual upgrades, or do I have to buy Portal 2? Note that I’m not looking for Portal 2-specific props/materials/textures, just the graphical improvements.

You have to own portal 2 to get the SDK.

I know. What I meant was… Was the normal SDK updated as well to match the graphical capabilities of the Portal 2 SDK?

I think only the Portal 2 SDK was updated to have the dynamic lightning and all that.

Yeah if source was updated to match the portal 2 sdk it would be announced here at the latest news tab.

I may be wrong, but it always seemed to me that hammer will gather exterior data regarding which engine version is being used, as chosen in the SDK Launcher, which will in turn tell hammer what content and editor tools to provide you.

That will somehow define what entities and functionalities hammer will support. So if you don’t have portal 2, you don’t have such functionalities (and obviously the game content neither). This may not be completely accurate, but I think I’m not far from it either.
