I think I’ve pirated only one game: Total Annihilation because I already bought it but the CDs got scratched beyond playability and I’m not about to pay the exorbitant costs associated with those third party sellers. I don’t pirate games because I figure that the developers spent a lot of money to create the game, market it, and distribute it.

my up/dl ratio is always shit - even though i’m seeding, it seems like i rarely get uploads. is this a common problem and is there some way to fix it, or is it just the natural way torrents work and i have to put a ridiculous number of files up just so tons of people can get a few KB at a time and it adds up?

the trick seems to be getting large enough files, so any particular peer is connected for a longer time than i.e. an album which will be dl/d in a minute or so.
I know these reasons have been brought up before but, I’ll only pirate something for two reasons:
- can’t be bought here (less frequent thanks to services like steam)
- over-the-top DRM
There is nothing I can not stand more than buying a game than to be subject to install limits, SecuROM, and other bullshit DRM like that. Nothing turns me off to actually buying (which I buy 99% of all my stuff) something more than DRM.

In Philippines… Poor Muslims and Pinoy pirate dvds, blu-ray, ps2, ps3, xbox 360, xbox, pc software, pc games etc…
I can’t miss them because there are so many of them! I always see them selling beside the streets whenever I go to school! I EVEN SEE POLICE BUYING AND NOT ARRESTING! The police do conduct raids… or should I say purposely failed raids because they are customers.
One day… someone knocked on our door… it was a muslim selling dvds and games for 20-80 Php(50php-1$). I was like WTF! They now go sell door-to-door!!! I didn’t buy any because I had a neighbor once who bought pirated dvds and pc games. I came to their house to see the quality of piracy. Some of the dvds suck but some were good but after a few days it couldn’t be played anymore. As for the pc games… when installed… their pc got flooded with viruses.
I don’t trust my life with the Philippine government with what’s happening now. When I grow up… I will make sure that I go to America. Simply because the gaming community is better and larger.
Here in the Philippines gaming is not appreciated and is considered to make you dumb. The only popular game here is DOTA. My classmates cut class just to play DOTA. I hate DOTA. It’s always about DOTA whenever I ask them to play. I was able to make them play L4D by treating them to an internet cafe. After 5 mins of gameplay… some of them liked it but most of them said it was boring and exited L4D to play DOTA. They even replace their girlfriends with DOTA! I mean… instead of accompanying a GF to her home… they play DOTA! It’s always about DOTA!
UGH! I’m sad here. I don’t have gaming buddies… or a GF. Never had one. Ever.
