photoshop: "could not complete save..."

In photoshop CS5 32-bit, i can’t save my work.

i get an error that says there is not enough memory.

i have 3.2 gbs (12GB on my system) allocated to Photoshop.

I have seen some fixes to this issue involving the registry, but the trouble is i just spent an hour working on something and i don’t want to lose it.

Can you save other files or only this one gives you trouble?

If the file you’re trying to save is too big, try to save it as a PSB, instead of a PSD. If that doesn’t work, the file is just simply too big and there’s nothing you can do except reduce the image size (delete some layers, don’t use Smart Objects, make the Image Size smaller, etc…).

Or it could be some system bug, if your file isn’t particularly big.

1- copy some of the layers to a new document,
2- copy the rest of the layers to another new document
3- save both separately.
4- close photoshop
5- apply the registry fix
6- open the two documents and merge them to a single document again.

^all good ideas but install x64 CS5 so more memory can be allocated to the program.
