PETA Sues SeaWorld Over "Enslavement" of Killer Whales

And what’s the fucking point in trying to preserve critically endangered species?

Great, they have the last few animals of its species on earth. Now what? Can’t put them back in the wild, as their captivity most likely shut down most of their survival instincts. You can force them to breed, but the offspring would be even more incapable of surviving in the wild, and so on.

Live and let live, die and let die.

The good zoos go to great lenghts to make sure their charges are happy and healthy. These animals have been bred in captivity and no natural ability to exist in the wild anymore.

Unfortunately the vast majority of these kinds of debates are carried on by people who have next to no knowledge of animals in general and are lucky if they can even teach a dog to sit. Oh, I’m sorry, PETA disagrees with teaching dogs to sit and thinks all pets should be murdered and every other dog and cat set free to breed indiscriminately in our cities and towns without vaccinations or any other medical intervention which only goes to prove what complete imbiciles they really are.

Looks like you’re on the other side of the fence with the people that have next to no knowledge of PETA or any other animal rights organization, which only goes to prove what complete … blabla.

PETA actively promotes spaying and neutering pets and urges pet owners to take proper care of their pets, including veterinary care.

This isn’t the ALF we’re talking about here.

PETA also actively ‘murders’ animals.

EDIT: By the way, don’t believe me? Here’s the Virginia State Government’s public records for PETA from 2010.

Number of animals received: 4569
Reclaimed by owner: 7 (0.15%)
Adopted: 838 (18.34%)
Transferred to VA Agency: 63 (1.38%)
Transferred to out-of-state facility: 2 (0.04%)
Died in facility: 0 (0%)
Euthanized: 3630 (79.45%)
Miscellaneous: 14 (0.31%)
On Hand: 15 (0.33%)

Year 1:

  • 3000 animals received
  • 100 animals adopted, reclaimed or released
  • Balance: 2900 animals in shelter

Year 2:

  • 5000 animals received
  • 300 animals adopted, reclaimed or released
  • Balance: 7600 animals in shelter

Year 3:

  • 2000 animals received
  • 50 animals adopted, reclaimed or released
  • Balance: 9550 animals in shelter

Suffice to say, no animal well-being organization has the resources to take care of so many animals and as such those animals need to be euthanized (humanely, not have them die a horrible death out on the streets or tied to a tree).

Yes, I know that. However, to claim that PETA is treating animals ethically with numbers like this is just wrong. There are many things that PETA could do. With the money they get, they could send money to no-kill animal shelters, then send those animals that they have left over to those no-kill shelters. They could refuse to take the animals if they can’t get rid of the animals to other places or get them adopted or reclaimed.

“Thanks, but we are unable to take your cat. We would have to euthanize him because we won’t be able to get him adopted or sent to another location. We don’t believe in killing innocent animals.”

There are options beyond euthanizing the majority of the animals.

True, but with the amount of abandoned pets these days, sending them off to a no-kill shelter isn’t a valid option. If pets weren’t euthanized selectively, those shelters would’ve been full decades ago. There simply is no way any place can house hundreds to thousands of pets for 10-20 years, with more coming in on a weekly basis.

And then it boils down to choosing between sending the pet back with its owners and possibly risking that the pet will get dumped/killed/suffer, or the option to take it in anyway and do your best to find it a good home despite knowing that odds are you’ll have to euthanize it.

It’s in case we discover a use for them. Ecological variety is an advantage.

If, say, we’re invaded by bamboo creatures from outer-space, then we’ll be super-glad for the effort we put into making panda-porn.

That’s a lot better of a record than those “Animal Cops” shows have.

I know that. Yet, we’re told, by PETA, that doing anything that might harm or kill an animal is tantamount to “murder” and that animals in zoo is “enslavement”. So, why isn’t PETA guilty of “murder” as well?

That’s something someone from PETA has to answer, but my guess would be that they consider it acceptable if the “murder” is done in a humane manner with as little pain for the animal as possible.

I probably look like a massive PETA hippie here, but I have no problems with euthanizing animals when needed, I simply detest animal abuse. Don’t hunt or kill for sport, don’t hurt or kill your pets because you feel like it or because you’re too much of a lazy cunt to take care of the animal you once promised to take care of.

I am a huge animal rights activist. I just think that if PETA is going to have a certain standpoint on things, they need to not be a hypocrite. If they want other animals to have the rights that humans have, which is what they mean when they say that “meat is murder” or that Sea World is “enslaving” whales.

Me, if I had to make the heart-breaking decision to get rid of my pet, I would never take them to PETA. Their adoption rate is low. Their transfers to other facilities is even lower. Their euthanization right is very high. I would take my pet to a no-kill shelter. I think it’s much more humane that way.

I’ve read a few things put out by PETA, granted that was about seven years or so ago now, but they weren’t all fuzzy happiness lets’s save all the pets. One of them stated that all pets who could not survive in the wild should be put down.

I’m not against animal rights activists, just the ones who go to insane extremes and perhaps PETA has changed or just put on a better front but they are no heroes.

After reading both of your ridiculous posts in this thread, I understand that lion in your avatar perfectly fine.

Says the barbie car.

Explain.

Probably what they said is that homeless pets that can’t survive in the wild should be euthanized. That seems more in line with their ideals.

Whoah… I like that sentiment.

Fuck human-dependent breeding. Those creatures that need human care disgust me.

I totally agree, my cat has survived for months without going inside the house, even when there’s 2 feet of snow outside.

The Barbie car is fine, but why is it so big? It’s not like pink sticks out or anything.

Sorry, I’m derailing my own thread. . .
