pc Splitscreen

Why don’t we have it? One of the biggest advantages xbox has over pc gaming is splitscreen. It makes social gaming far easier and more fun. So why doesn’t computer have splitscreen gaming??? First player would use mouse keyboard or controller, and then any other players would use a controller. L4D1 even has code for splitscreen in it: L4D1 splitscreen. So what I’m wondering is, if it’s clearly possible and a huge advantage, why don’t developers do it???

Because only lonely virgin losers play games on PC.

Because it would not be a very smooth way of gameplay on a pc, especially if one of the players has to use a controller instead of a mouse and keyboard. A better alternative is simply online co-op, and if you must, do online co-op with four PCs in your house.

Please elaborate. And p1 doesn’t have to use a keyboard mouse, he could use a controller if he wants. Having 4 pcs in your house just isn’t as practical; pcs are expensive and they’re not very portable. Having one splitscreened pc is a much easier set-up.

Well, in order for that to work well, you’d need a big screen, probably a TV, since computer screens have bigger resolution and PC games smaller screen have elements in order to correctly scale to that resolution and that would make it hard to see in splitscreen gameplay.

Which brings another point, PC games are usually a single player per machine experience, as opposed to consoles games, which are optimized for multiple players on the same machine. It’s simply a matter of tradition.

Evidently you’ve never lived in a nerdy household.

But anyway, the main reason is that it’s 10x easier to just get a console. They are made to go in the living room, ie. the family room, unlike computers, as well as the tiny computer screens in comparison, and the lack of appropriate seating.

Unless you have a sofa infront of your computer.

Off Topic:
Can you say ‘infront’? or is it supposed to be written ‘in front’?

My monitor is 24 inches, that’s plenty of room for splitscreen. And I do have a sofa right by my computer. And I have a projector that I sometimes connect to my computer. So splitscreen is perfect for my set-up and I’m sure there are many other people with similar set-ups. And if your set-up isn’t perfect for splitscreen it wouldn’t be hard to make it that way. You don’t need to be in the family room to play splitscreen comfortably.

Also, it’s in front, you can’t say infront.

24inch is pretty small for splitscreen

Thanks, and while I admit that you do have a pretty good set-up, the amount of people with a sofa right next to their computer is very, very small compared to those with a sofa next to their TV. If L4D does have splitscreen capability, then there is probably a mod somewhere enabling it for you, but otherwise it’s not really economic for the businesses and companies to cater for such a small minority.

Maybe you’ll get lucky in the future though, and it’ll become popular. Post-apocalyptic games did, which I had been hoping for for a while; minorities do occasionally get their lucky breaks.

Why? Does PC world feel too lonely to you?
Can’t blame you.
Get an Wii.

The first reason: Consoles need at least one advantage(for the player) against pcs so every consoleproducer has signed a contract not to develop splitscreen nor even put a workin controller support for pc games. Consolecompanys accomplish that playing games on the pc is less fun than on consoles. Console games are more expensive and you need to do a lot more to play pirated games on consoles.

The second reason: Before there was internet on consoles there were no other way to play multiplayer on them than splitscreen.

The third reason: Pc monitors are generally too small.

The fourth reason:

No offense, but seriously, that’s one of the most retarded shit I’ve ever read.

It is.

In this millenium, Most people would rather come over and play Halo or Warioware than come over and play Sven Co-op on a shitty 24 inch monitor.

I would rather play Halo than Sven Co-Op either way.

I doubt most people have their computer even in a location where it would be practical to have multiple people at once. They most definitely don’t have seating arrangements for multiple people around a computer.

Also, if you consider that the average person only owns either a PC for gaming OR a console for gaming, then the average PC owner won’t own a controller needed for your split-screen scenario, and few people are in your situation where they feel buying a controller for split-screening on something as small as a computer monitor would be worth the purchase as opposed to just sitting each at their own computer and using Ventrilo.

It’s simply not a worthwhile investment for game developers to put such a feature in any of their games, since few people want and would actually use such a feature.

Split Second has splitscreen multiplayer on PC, and it works really well actually. Loads of fun.

Don’t you just love it when the thread creaters can’t accept that their thread idea is stupid.

I have kept a close eye on you. Everytime someone even slightly bashes a fucking inch of a console you have to reply with something stupid. Opinions and facts can be kept seperate without your having to complain - no offence.

I don’t care! I may have a complex because I never got any console from my parents but my retarded shit has some truth in it. Even today I am extremely jealous when I watch that kid shouting “OMG NINTENDO 64”!
