Overclocking.

How can I reset the CMOS if I can’t power on my computer? It would save me time  . Also my mobo is a P5B-Plus (Asus). I know it’s old but I don’t really have any cash to invest in my computer right now.

There is usually a jumper you can use to clear the CMOS. Check your motherboard’s manual for where it is. Just short it for a few seconds while the PC is off and it’ll erase your BIOS config. Don’t short it while the PC is on or bad things will happen.

my mainboard has a little button to reset the cmos

Go to section 2-6 in your manual for instructions on resetting CMOS.

Okay thanks!

Also if that fails, you can remove your CMOS battery (little round thing about the size of a nickel) and it should reset.

That’s what I was doing before.

Careful, I broke the battery holder on my old motherboard because of doing that too much.

it really doesn’t matter what temperature , my ati radeon 9250 runs on the highest temperature among all radeon cards like 100 or something , it burns if you touch it , but it 's fine , 30% should be your overclocking cap…

i clocked yestraday my core2quad from 2,4 to 3,0
got from 59 degress to 63 …

Not too bad, just make sure it doesn’t stay at the high temp when on idle, also keep your case open if it’s not too ugly.

Also imonfire, don’t use setFSB, it’s unstable and it’s to use as a last resort if you’re on an OEM board, I’m sure you can find overclocking options in your BIOS.

I think your temps are too high, buy new custom cooler+fan/get a huge celeron cooler that fits, and apply new thermal paste(buy it from somewhere, don’t reuse old one)

yeah its open all the time, also im toi lazy to check how hot it is, if it will go fuck itself, i will just buy the i7

It’s actually pretty hard to fry a cpu(especially 45nm), they protect themselves by lowering the clock and I think that defeats the purpose of your overclock, doesn’t it. :stuck_out_tongue:

My PC is fueled by small children and the souls of the innocent.

Just like your muscles, amirite? :stuck_out_tongue:
