Honestly chemicals in the soil is what’s going to control population in the end. I mean think about it. Who controls farmland? Pharmeceutical companies. What do they do? they pay farmers to abuse the soil until it’s depleted. then they use chemicals on it to put in just enough nutrients to make the plant survive until it’s on the shelf. Think about it, people are having heart attacks as young as 25 because their food they eat is nutritionally depleted. People need to get back to basics if we’re to let the soil replenish itself, people and livestock would be healthier:

The problem of the dead core is a big one, but its not insurmountable.
One approach to terraform I found to be quite promising is the biological approach. If and when we come to the point of mastery over biology that we can build lifeforms (such as lichen and algae) from the ground up with specific characteristics, we can set them loose in the martian environment and watch them flourish. Life can survive in the harshest of conditions naturally, and designed life could well survive almost anywhere. If the organisms do well enough, we could built layer after layer of compelxity within the developing biome of mars and let the little buggers do the work for us.
One example of this is setting lose a black lichen over the northern polar region, which will warm the surface and melt the ice beneath.
Of course the biological approach is a slow one, but once set it motion is basically does all the work for us, as long as we keep adding new species to drive evolution toward eventual goal.
Returning to the Magnetic Field Strength obstacle… obviously that is something very huge we will have to contend with. However, it is quite plausible that by the time we are thinking about mass colonization we will have fusion power or at least very efficient solar. Is it possible to create a man-made magnetic field with enough terawatts of directed energy? Only time will tell. If we get to the point where energy is extremely abundant and basically free, I would say that almost anything is possible.

Your right to freedom ends when you are hurting someone else. Jail is a serious violation of freedom, lets go let out all those convicts. If you verbally insult someone you lose free speech. All freedom is conditional upon your actions. If your freedom is hurting society or another person then you loose your freedom. By having too many children, you are taking up too much of the world’s limited space, killing starving Africans, destroying the rainforest, polluting, generating trash, and much much more.

Either way, it’s not pharmacist’s fault, it’s yours and all the other people who are too gluttonous to eat organic food. It’s their personal choice to eat badly. Cancer is when cells in your body develop damaged genes which cause them to be useless and reproduce at an extremely fast rate. That’s what a tumor is, a ball of reproducing useless cells. How the fuck is organic food going to make those cells disappear?

Time: It is true that we may not have enough time. We may get hit with a big rock or turn into a dystopian civilization before we pull together to do what is right.
Cost/Fuel: Every single one of us has grown up in a society based upon the monetary system, so its easy for us to think in these terms. The ironic thing is, for the most part, at this point in history, money is interchangeable with energy. If your country is sitting on a pile of energy, such as oil, you are rich. If you expended all your energy building your military and culture, like the states, then you are also rich (though slowly dying – see “freedom from foriegn oil”). If humanity unlocks the secret to near limitless energy (see Fusion Power, Ultra High Efficiency Solar, Deep Geothermal), the need for concern about money will dissapear. The concern for resources will remain, because we are stuck on this planet. What is the solution at this point? Mass space enterprise. Mining and colonization.
TL;DR If we survive long enough to implement scarcity-free energy technologies, space colonization is inevitable due to the need for raw resources.
Note: No energy source is truly infinite or without consequence. No one knows how long it will take, but if we use renewable energy sources for too long, the laws of entropy will apply and we will heat up our planet even though we are not contributing greenhouse gasses. At some point (As little as 1000 years if we have achieve sustained total energy output of 174 Petawatts [The Solar Constant, or the total amount of energy striking the atmosphere from the sun]) we will have to stop producing energy on Earth or find some way to mitigate entropy.

Here’s where you’re wrong. How do you prove that somebody is hurting “society” or “the world?” You can’t, because the former is a theoretical concept, and the latter (if taken to mean “the environment”) is something we don’t understand in the least.
You cannot seriously tell me that you wish to prosecute a person for harming these things. Last I checked, there’s no defendant for Gaia. Trying to prosecute a person for harming others by “polluting” is like trying to prosecute a car dealer for selling a car to a man who later used it to run over someone. Of course, in that situation, it’s the car dealer’s EXACT CAR that was used; how are you going to determine whose pollution it was that killed those poor starving Africans? So, it’d be more like prosecuting a car COMPANY for the man’s death. Or perhaps the people who sold the metal to the car company.
The reason you’re wishing for a “good Hitler,” garth, is because you realize that there is no legal way under a fair system which respects human freedom to persecute people in this way. There is no way to justify taking away a man’s freedom because you have tenuously connected it to “hurting the environment guiz.”
