Ouya-Open source game console

I am considering backing this project just for this. Everything else would be a bonus. Are there N64 or PS1 emulators for Android? I know 16 bit and under are going to be covered…

This thing has the potential to change everything. The problem is, the masses won’t buy it if they can’t play the newest Call of Duty on it. I hope they make some announcements about some nice exclusives. (or at least some awesome "me too!"s before the preorders sell out, if they don’t I’ll have to wait until after launch, and reconsider)

If the Ouya could run it, Interstellar Marines would be perfect.

oops

And Ouya just hit 5 million, simply amazing.

The platform isn’t.

I think this may be a scam, like that Phantom console or whatever its name was.

I don’t think its a scam. I think its just a shitty idea.

Holy fuck 5 mil

That’s gonna buy a lot of margaritas when they’re chilling on a beach in the Caribbean.

That’s a lot of people that are going to be disappointed they invested in a living room cell phone.

my tegra 2 phone can run Android 4.0 in tablet mode over HDMI. Anyone who donated for this could’ve given $ to a better cause.

Yeah, there are N64 and PSX emulators for android, but for N64, you may want a high powered phone, i get severe lag when i play SSB on the Yoshi stage, and i have a pretty good one

I don’t have a smart phone nor do I want to pay for a contract for one. So if it turns out to be alright and I buy one, it would not be redundant buying this. There are probably others in my situation also. But we shall see if it turns out to be good or bad.

get prepaid, that’s where the fun is at!

I’m not in the US but I heard Boost mobile has androids for prepaid AND unlimited 3G internet.

I think that’s enough (coupled with my current lack of funds) to convince me to not get one of these. I’ll probably see how they’re doing a bit after release and reconsider then.

I dunno, I gave it a try on quite a few very different Android platforms (nvidia, samsung, qualcomm) and only the nvidia was really considered high end. FPSE ran every PSx game beyond fullspeed and n64oid ran Zelda/Goldeneye just fine on all three of them.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon needed just a slight overclock from 1.0ghz to 1.7ghz to be able to run Age of Empires on top of Windows 98 emulated in true color with sound.

Also, the app for it is 5 bucks

ooh, how’d those controls handle?

The only thing which drives me to buy a new platform is if it has decent exclusives or does something revolutionary that nothing else can do.

Yes it is impressive the amount of money this project has raised, but my computer can do everything this can do, and much much more. If I want to play a game like I do on a console, I just plug in a controller. If I want to play on a big TV screen, I plug it into a big TV screen.

Yes my computer was expensive, but most gamers would already have one, or at least get one when they get older and richer. It’s good for parents to buy their kids a cheap console, but it concerns me that the vast majority of games will likely be crap. I’m thinking it’ll be like the games market on the apple store.

It does look like a neat little box, and would be handy for emulation, but I do everything legit so it’s of not much use to me. Even if I did decide to wear an eye patch I could do it all on the computer, and most likely better.

F2P I think will cause issues. For existing titles to be ported everything will need to be modified to support this. A timer could be imposed upon games to end it after half an hour, but with an open console I see people hacking this and even hacking the market to the point where they set up a whole other market full of roms and pirated stuff.

It seems to me like a bad idea to try and make money off a console that welcomes hackers and therefore piracy. Unless of course they’ve made their money and will now disappear without a trace :stuck_out_tongue:

On top of all of this, I doubt it will play Black Mesa Source.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
