So I recently purchased the computer I am using, however i am plagued by both an integrated graphics card and an empty wallet. Before you say it I am well aware that the BEST solution is to buy a new card but that’s in the budget. So what I wondering is, what kind of things are there that I can do to get the best fps in games as possible. That is of course excluding graphics setting and fps configs I already know those. To be specific my specs are a AMD Athlon II x4 2.6 ghz, 8 gig RAM, integrated Geforce 9100. Many thanks for any help
Turn down the video settings until you buy a video card’s the only advice I can give. You’re not going to get good framerates and good visuals until you invest in a GPU.
what was the name of that program that people used back in the day. IT shutdown everything in windows and then launched the game with almost nothing running. It required a restart after playing the game but it made your computer run faster (the game anyways). The only reason I remember it is VAC was accidentally banning people for using it back then.
I don’t know if the program is the one your talking about but the functionality is the same and I tried that, it’s mostly made for cpu and ram issues. Thanks though if your interested here is the program i am talking about is game booster
yah, that was it. But for increasing video performance you only two options (excluding geting another video card)
Is turning down the graphic settings. If you cant turn them down lo enough you can override game settings with the the adapters control panel, or by forcing a lower DX level.
Second is over clocking your GPU. Just make sure you keep it cool, and you dont do anything stupid.
Before someone mentions it, I do not recommend overclocking your hardware. Also, is it really not possible to get even a cheap GPU? Anything is better than on-board.
you can overclock onboard GPUs?
example .bat file:
taskkill /f /IM explorer.exe
LaunchGTAIV.exe
start explorer.exe
also in compatibility properties set it to disable aero while the game is running
I was wondering about that myself. You could always drop $30 or $40 on a fairly old GPU to hold you over until you can afford a new one. Like Jeannotvb said, anything’s better than an onboard GPU.

30 dollars… may even handle OB games with high quality as long as the resolution is kinda turned down.
I know you said you’re not buying any but this really is the best option for you.
See here’s the thing, I can already handle source games playable enough to not be worth it to waste the 30-40$ atm (20-40 in tf2 and 20-30 in l4d2. I was just wondering if in the mean time while i wait other things to do to increase fps. I’m going to try out the bat file thing, but i already knew to turn off areo. Thanks again.
-dxlevel 81 should help just add it in the command line of any source game
oh wow I can’t believe i forgot about that, I even used it on my old PC…
Edit: I get a min 40 fps even in firefights on tf2 now, but I don’t think it does anything to l4d series.
If you’re lucky you could probably find an older GPU for free, I have an old 6800GT lying around incase something happens to my GPU. 6800GT kicks ass, old but gold.
It doesn’t do anything on L4D because

VALVE ABANDONED THEIR CUSTOMERS AND GOT GREEDY WITH A HALF-ASSED GAME

…it’s their first source game to phase out DX8 mode.
