It never was about Text doing it, besides that he already said that he’s not doing it.
This rationale always escaped my mind.
No it wasn’t? It’s not like there wasn’t any sidewalks.
So I am guessing that NYC subway administration (and any other subway, tbh) is dumb because their track system is still considered an electrical hazard? Nevermind that the transit system is old as fuck…
Like I said before though, I’m not that bothered about the absence of the electrocution. It’s just these bullshit rationales that irk me.
I do find the decision silly still, since it is strongly implied in-game that these rails (at least the middle one) carry a current.
The scientist that introduces the player to the section of the game calls it “an old decommissioned rail line”.
I’m not going to gripe over the decision, though. I wonder if there are any sections where Gordon gets damage from electricity through his feet. It’s possible that his HEV suit protects against that kind of thing.
this hole conversation is irreverent, the feature would remove game play options and limit the players path in some areas, both of which are bad in the first place. That and I highly doubt text has the time to decompile and add a item to many maps in the game.
You say irreverent. Indeed, I have no reverence for BS. Sorry if it is not okay.
Just for the sake of proving your point, show me parts where electrifying the central rail is gonna be a gamebreaker? That’s right, there is virtually none.
I wonder why you (and others) still dwell on this when Text has clearly said he’s not doing it. Are you trying to get more points this way? Makes me wonder why I bother to argue when the opponent doesn’t even rad posts.
P.S. I think it would be wise to withdraw from discussing the electrified rails as this is becoming quite a mess.
I spare no quarter for bullshit either ODB. But you need to draw a line sometimes. If you’ve noticed, the whole thing is/was getting ridiculous, now would be a good time to recuse yourself and let the mods deal with it, just a suggestion.
I have that same nasty habit too FYI.
Yet you continue to argue your own point in it. It turned irrelevant when he said he was not going to electrify the rails irregardless.
I fail to see what continuing to poke the bear is getting in this instance, I can understand wanting to make your own case, but it’s a waste of time. You’re arguing with imbeciles at this point. If you want to continue arguing, debate over PMs or something. It’s creating needless clutter inside the thread.
Edit: When you do decide to decompile Power Up, etc and electrify the rails, shoot me a PM. I want them too.
Amen to that. If it wasn’t for the number of people involved I’d definitely be following through with my threat. Unfortunately I don’t want to ban half the forum, believe it or not.
Also please don’t come up with electrified cranes either. Some aspects of the game don’t need to be changed. Whenever I played with OaR cut, or uncut, I never missed it.
Now I’ll start the chapter again. With all the alternate rootes, the fights are different all the time - and for me, this is one of the strongest aspects of the mod.
Also I wonder, Text, how is your battle going with the lagspikes?
The good news is that A1 and A2 are beta ready, I literally just finished them up to standard. They’re both significantly improved from their alpha versions, both aesthetically and gameplay wise. A1 has a fair few new areas added to it to make it feel like a more complete map, and the crane control room has been improved a bit too.
A2 has seen a pretty serious reduction in the number of enemies present throughout its battles, but I had some leeway here because I worked around the AI bug. The sense of direction in the office complex should be significantly improved, both to and from the security office. The lighting should also draw you towards it a lot better than before, and I’ve added a few new different types of light to the office complex which helps vary up the lighting a bit. The vertical expansion has really helped some of the tunnels feel a bit less boring, so I’m really pleased with how much I’ve managed to do with A1 and A2. They’ve improved a lot more than I thought they would. Look forward to it! One other thing I’ve done to A1 and A2 is de-linearized them even more. Hopefully this helps makes the maps feel more interesting and fresh.
A2 has one single bug which I need to fix and can’t figure out the cause for, but I can deal with it eventually.
B1 and B2 should only take me 2 - 3 days, at most. There’s much less to do on both of those maps. I may have thought of a good solution for the turntable on B1, to make it way less buggy, but we’ll have to wait and see if that works. I’m still on track for a beta release on Friday - Saturday, though I make no promises, as usual.
Not sure what you mean by electrified cranes. The only thing I’m planning on electrifying is the atmosphere on all the maps.
And by “lagspikes,” I assume you mean framerate drops. If you’re getting lagspikes in a single player game, something’s going very, VERY wrong.
But yeah, so far I’ve improved the performance in the Office Complex quite a fair bit - I never drop beyond 50FPS now and this is with the offices and their hallways being fully detailed, with action. This is good. It performs a lot better than before. You can expect to see similar improvements to the turntable room, as well.
I hope the bleeding has stopped and that you’re able to easily move about and getting around without hobbling too badly from all the “shooting yourself in the foot” you’ve mentioned, when it comes to your release schedules. Have you lost any toes? Maybe you shouldn’t have a gun in the house. . I hope nothing crops up and that your next release all comes together, as planned.
Great to see that map A1 has been expanded. As you stated, it did seem rather smallish. I’m especially keen on seeing this “vertical expansion” that you’ve talked about. Giving an area an expansive look/feeling really adds to the atmosphere and scope. I was just playing Blast Pit… amazing stuff, that.
It all sounds really exciting. I’m really anxious, as I’m sure many, many others are, of getting our hands on it!
It was just a pun. And yep, I was referring to the fps drop, exactly in those areas. Thx for the update & answer! And yeah I am also waiting the beta with great anticipation.
To direct the player even more towards the staircase near the security office would be to have a zombie on the other side, pounding on the doors. Opening them will make him step back. It would draw more attention there
