Old PS3'S Dust Problem?

I have a question about the old PS3’S the one that my brother YLOD’ed on him he took very good care of it .

can you tell me how to avoid this on my new PS3 slim I dont want to lose 300dollars. Im just nervous my ps3 might break :frowning: i really dont want mine to break on me

is it a hardware issue or software issue?

how can i avoid wasting 300 dollars?
I dont like 3 Red Blinking Rings

Dunno, my xbox never had a similar problem. lol

I’d say buy one if you want. besides if it dies, you can get it repaired for free (considering that a year doesn’t go by).
Also, i’d put it into a cool place, since its slimmer you can put it into a smaller space or keep it in a pretty big space so that it vents. You can also mod it so it vents better (fans and such)
Sure, getting a defective unit is possible, but then that’s the case when purchasing any kind of electronics. Wasting money is a possibility when you buy anything, really.
And don’t let your brother play on it

My brother is in college he was just visiting

Lol, if i was your brother i would play it everyday.

I got RROD once. I just smacked my 360 and it got over it.

No RROD here. Refurbished consoles ftw.

I heard you can do the same for the PS3.

Seriously though, I heard it’s fixable without replacing any parts…

Keep it in cool conditions if you plan to play for a very long time.

Other than that, just try to avoid the older models.

Yeah you gotta resolder because solder melted due to overheating (points where gpu/cpu meets the motherboard)

Ok from the question or information you have given us. You are pretty vague. You mean that your PS3 freezes as a result of dust getting inside? (ie. I own the original PS3 60 Gb unit. And it runs perfectly since I bought it. I even upgraded mine with a 500 Gb hard drive.)

If so go buy a 99 cent can of electronic duster from Walmart and spray it into all the vents to see if dust comes out! (Duh) Then get a swifter and wipe all the dust off. Like any piece of tech. (ie. Computers, Laptops, TVs, gaming systems. They need to be maintained so that it is free of dust. So blow it out, or wipe it out with a swifter or soft cleaning cloth. They some times sell kits for cleaning electronics in Walmart too.

Hope this helps.

I do notice though when a computer has not been dusted for years. It will get dust in the CPU fan which will cause you computer to over heat and freeze, crash, malfuction, run slower, break, melt etc. It is simple as that at times and should be so with a PS3 or a Xbox 360 unless it’s a hardware manufacturing error or if you have melted the connections on the PS3’s motherboard, gpu or cpu as a result of prolonged overheating and dust collection.

Make sure too when you clean the unit make sure you put it in a well ventilated area. Not in a cabinet small area for VHS/DVD area. IT should be exposed to direct contact with room air circulation.

Old PS3? Fucking fuck you. If it’s too old just give it to me and I’ll be happy.

NO I HAVE A SLIM I USED TO USE MY BRO’S PS3 WHENEVER I VISITED CAUSE I DIDNT HAVE A PS3 UNTIL THIS CHRISTMAS!!!

Their we are explained.

This happened to me a few days ago. I had the 60gb version that came with the first motorstorm. I tried to fix with some friends who fixed theirs, but ended up making it worse. Luckily I got a slim for Christmas.

Give it to me I’ll fix it so well that it would be impossible to make it any worse.

I had my doubts when he pulled out a heat gun.
