Obesity

@Sassy: I see that doesn’t sound to flattering for any girl nowadays, but I am sure that nurse didn’t mean any harm.

@mattemuse: My ex fiance is overweight and vegetarian. But her overweight has to do with her bulimia and with the damage that the abuse of diet drugs has done to her metabolism. Her vegetarianism has actually helped her to gradually lose weight again, though she is still far from being skinny.

I’m 22 pounds “overweight,” but that’s because I hit the gym three times a week. Honestly, I see nothing wrong with overweight, both my kind of overweight and increased-body-fat overweight. But obesity is disgusting. When I see an obese person, I think, “learn to take care of your body, man.” It honestly isn’t all that difficult, even for people with metabolic conditions or other medical issues. My uncle, for example, had to have his thyroid gland removed, and he’s a heavy guy because of it, but he’s nowhere near obese. And thyroid problems are the classic medical excuse for obesity. I don’t think you can describe obesity as an “illness” or as an “epidemic” because, as Carlos Mencia said, “you weren’t born fat, you ate fat.” And I can’t believe I just quoted Carlos Mencia.

Because the title of the thread is obesity. I figured the topic of vegetarianism was brought up as a means to diet… as a cure for obesity. It’s not. Obesity is a problem because of eating disorders. People with eating disorders don’t have great success on diets, vegetarian or otherwise. People who go on a vegetarian diet and not a low fat vegetarian diet tend to fail badly because their fat goes up, or hovers about the same level. Their ability to lose weight is decreased because they still ( typically ) aren’t eating well, and now don’t have any of the benefits meat provide either. This is about the merit of a diet for me, not vegetarianism. I know a few vegetarians. They are slim, but they are also very particular about their health. They eat healthy because they like to. People with eating disorders don’t tend to work that way.

@Sassy: Yep, better a little more on the hips than having a serious eating disorder. I can tell you from my experiences in my last (and so far only) relationship that eating disorders are some serious shit which don’t only have a huge impact on your own life, but also on those who care about you.

Okay, I see where you were going - and I can agree with you to a certain extent. But eating disorders are not the main cause of obesity. At least not in America or Germany. It’s fast food culture that is the leading cause of it. And neither your government nor ours is going to do anything useful about it. Because McDonalds is too fuckin rich and too influential.

@mattemuse: Your move sir.

That pretty much supports what I said in my first post ITT:

No disrespect to your ex fiance intended!

Speaking of which, will this guy ever stop posting the opposite of whatever is true?

Seriously dude. Just stop.

Seriously dude learn to form better retorts than

The thing is, so why I. I had a very fast metabolism too, I ate a lot of junkfood and never felt any effect. And so have 3 others that I’ve known over the years. In fact, my skinny friend was the only one that wasn’t on this medication. I wish I could remember the name of it, but I’ve been on several others, I can’t remember which one it was.

Either way, I’d say it seems like something that should be watched out for. Unfortunately, when you are a child, you have no say, and really don’t care anyway.

Stop complaining about dieting and eating veggies, muscle burns calories three times faster than fat, so just get ur lazy ass up and start pumping dem weights. Eat shit like Whey Protein (20g of Protein per serving) or some Pure Protein bars (31g of Protein per serving) in conjunction with intense full body workouts and u’ll get jacked fast, I went from being 170lb 8th grader to a 130lb 9th grader and then to a 170lb 10th grader, cept its all muscle now and biddies love hard bodies guys.

Observation: Young people believe an alternative to being muscular and attractive is simply wearing a North Face jacket.

Oh thanks I didn’t know that I wasn’t being sarcastic you are so insightful thank you.

You’re 170 pounds and a sophomore in high school. It’s not “all muscle” and you aren’t anywhere near swole status. Climb down from that horse, sonny.

Obesity is laziness. It’s not hard to stay at a good weight.

Childhood obesity is because of terrible parents. Who the fuck keeps feeding their kid a bunch of crap when he/she starts snowballing into a waddling blob?

Capitalism.
High Fructose Corn Syrup is cheaper than sugar. Virtually every item you can buy in American grocery stores contains HFCS. America has the highest obesity rate in the world. HFCS intake has an extremely high correlation with obesity. Correlation of course does not prove causation, so i leave it to all to draw their own conclusions.

On an unrelated note, North Face gear is shit.

The corn dude should be obese for optimum accuracy in advertising. His stomach should be drooping out of the husk :3

Corn doesn’t have a stomach :hmph:

Neither did I, because sarcasm on the internet is like winking on the phone.

If you had any sort of contextual awareness of your surroundings you probably would’ve understood the sarcasm like I’m sure every single other person who read it did.

Knowing what a jackass you are, I just considered you to be perfectly serious about it.

The fact I’m an asshole probably has nothing to do with the fact what I posted was obvious sarcasm, and you just failed to see it.

Stop trying to defend yourself, you’re just making yourself look even more stupid.

On topic, I eat like a fucking pig, and am still underweight. High metabolism is a bit of a bitch, I can’t even bulk up that well
