It’s completely understandable, IMO. Notch was just an average guy who wanted to make games for kicks, and had the incredible misfortune to create Minecraft instead.

My 10yr old sister loves minecraft, I hope they won’t DRM the heck out of it and alienate the modding community.
They bought the studio, not the game. Mojang will still be the ones making Minecraft, and hopefully the game’s direction won’t change that much.
How many people even work at Mojang though? I was under the impression that Notch himself did most of the work on Minecraft.
He initially did but then a whole team was formed around it, he eventually left Minecraft development and gave it to another person to focus on other personal projects.
Yeah, Notch hasn’t done much of the coding in a long time. It’s mostly Jeb and Dinnerbone these days.
2.5B don’t sound like misfortune to me.
My point was that unexpected fame and fortune comes with a lot of pitfalls.
Still, I’d say the pros far outweigh the cons.
CONS: Twitter harrasment, animosity from the usual fuckwits on the internet.
PROS: 2.5B dollars.
I think acade has the best summary of the situation
When I said “had the incredible misfortune to create minecraft”, I was being half-sarcastic, to be clear. I have some pity for the guy, but more than anything I’m jealous. The two feelings aren’t mutually exclusive.
Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
